I am new to this site, but I am a junior in high school and I wish to either participate in AFROTC or go to the academy in Colorado Springs. My school is offering a free ASVAB test in December, and I don't know if I should take it. Will it be of any benefit to me, and are my scores automatically recorded?
Thanks for your help.

I'm also just a high schooler, but I asked this recently and you can see the responses here: http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/index.php?threads/putting-asvab-score-on-arotc-app.51438/

Basically, apparently no matter how well you do, ROTC and academies won't care about ASVAB scores. Put your time and effort into ACT/SAT, those will definitely matter, both for ROTC/SA and for every college you may want to attend.

Also, I think the ASVAB is always "free." This past summer I was interested in enlisting in the reserves and I took it with very little paperwork completed and definitely did not pay anything. And I didn't end up enlisting either.

No

The ASVAB is primarily focused on what enlisted jobs you can qualify for. The promotion of the "free" ASVAB at the high schools is primary intended to recruit enlisted personnel, not officers.
Don't talk to an enlisted recruiter about becoming an officer or about the service academies. While some enlisted recruiters can be very helpful, they typically do NOT specialize in recruiting officers, and you may get incorrect information or worst case, get "steered" toward enlisting.

For the SA's you should focus on their respective websites and/or the liasion officer. (USAFA liasion officer = ALO).
For USAFA: http://www.academyadmissions.com/

For AFROTC, you should email or call your local AFROTC detachment recruiting officer.

Get good grades, and begin practicing for the ACT or SAT, and participate in a sport you love. Those are three things (among many others) that you can do to prepare to be an officer.

My DD took the ASVAB out of curiosity, scored really high and now she's bombarded with recruiter calls.

Thanks all, I will appreciate not being swamped by recruiters. I'm busy enough already.

Thank you for the information.

^ THIS!

I took ASVAB as a fall back if I didn't get a scholarship. Got a 98. The recruiters will never leave you alone. Still getting calls almost 2 years later.

Thank you! The last thing I want is recruiters up my ass, especially since I do very well on tests
