My DS applied to USAFA and did not receive medical Q due to childhood mental health treatment - he was never prescribed medication and if there was a diagnosis (I dont even recall if there was) it was age appropriate adjustment issues that were resolved through counseling. All counseling notes and statement from treatment professional were provided. He is re-applying this year. How should he handle this? Does he need to request waiver? At what point in the process should that be done? Thank you.

You can't request a medical waiver. If your child is a competitive candidate, the school will process one automatically.

Welcome, new member of 20 minutes or so!

The Deputy Director of DoDMERB volunteers here, so I expect he will pop up. He often offers to communicate offline with applicants.

The DoDMERB exam is good for 2 years since the last one for re-applicants, but I would expect there would be updates requested on any DQ issues from last round.

DoDMERB finds the candidate to either meet or not meet standards. It’s the SA that decides if waivers will be pursued from the applicable waiver authority. The candidate does not request a waiver.

I think the DoDMERB website may still be down. If your son hasn’t read every menu item on the left-hand side of the landing page, I recommend it when it comes back up.

Mom4life Question = "...He is re-applying this year. How should he handle this?..."

Answer: APPLICANT SON: If you’d like, you may send me an email:lawrence.e.mullen.civ@health.mil; provide complete name and last 4 SSN; provide the text of your posting above to YOUR email. The subject line of the email should be “Mom4life- SAF =Should waiver be requested after previous medical non-qualification?“ Do NOT embed links in your email as I will not be able to view those :wiggle:
