silly question about required sneakers

I wish we had the information on the "gear" needed for indoc, but I'm sure someone out there will know this. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the kids need specific sneakers for indoc. Am I right? Or can DS wear whatever he wants. He's in desperate need of new running sneaks, but I don't want to invest in a good pair that he can't take with him.

Yes

The exact make and model of sneaker required for indoc will be in the "logging in" instructions. They do change from year to year so it's impossible to say if class of 2015 will be the same as 2014. I know that 2014 and 2013 had completely different sneakers.

Oh and when you find out what they are and locate a place to buy them I would suggest getting 2 pair.

Thanks for the quick response! I guess he will get a pair that he likes now & then we'll get new sneaks (2 pair:thumb:) for indoc. He can always leave the ones he gets now at home for vacations. Good running sneaks get pricey, but it's worse to suffer shin splints

The ones for last year were close to $90 so if I were you, I might just wait. List should be coming out around the middle of May?

For class of 2013, we got the required running shoes for indoc, but as soon as indoc was over, the mids were allowed to use whatever running shoes they liked. So getting 2 pairs may not be the way to go if the shoe isn't one your DS/DD likes (or is comfortable running in). I would recommend insoles if your DS/DD is not a big runner. Ours got shin splints (which went away once the express order of shoe insoles arrived).

We had to order the first pair via internet. DS wore them in June and decided they were OK so we shipped him a second pair during indoc.

The "logging in" for the Class of 2015 has not been published yet. Once it is, you will be sent it, along with any other things you need to do to prepare before reporting for Indoc.

For shoes that are good for runners with different pronations, try checking with www.holabirdsports.com or www.kellysrunningwarehouse.com. Theses are two on-line stores that usually have reasonable prices. They also have great variety of brands and styles. I hope I don't sound like I'm advertising for them but I've found them to be a life saver for a kid that trains hard and wears out shoes like they're going out of style! Also check with www.runnersworld.com to find a shoe that would work best for training.

In prior years a make and model was required for indoc. So, wait for the logging in package before you get sneakers. You will have plenty of time.

So wait, no flip flops allowed?? But it's summer!!! :p

Well ... you can wear your flip flops in the shower, in fact it's required/recommended even though they may not be there long enough during indoc to get wet... also if you wait till sea year and you end up on an MSC West Pac ship that stops in Pattaya you'll fit in better with the middle aged German pervs if you have a pair of Birkenstocks though it's probably best if we don't get ahead of ourselves...

Hey, they aren't all German. . oh, never mind. . . .

Why do we have to buy a new pair of sneakers? My sneakers are in great shape, and I've gotten lots of use out of them for running. Oh well, probably just a stupid uniform policy rule.....

Uniformity. Same reason that officers wear khaki shirts and khaki pants with black shoes (or brown shoes) in the Navy.
