Hello,

My first post here; I am a cadet serving as an MSll and was offered the SMP route, but I would have to take off the Spring Semester 2017. I was curious if this route would be beneficial to me or harm me. My graduation date has already been pushed back a whole year. This would push it back another semester.

Pluses and Minuses?

Are you taking a semester off to attend Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training? BCT and AIT are not required if you enlist as a 09R option however the benefits can be greater with them completed. If you plan on staying National Guard or Army Reserve, a Minuteman or GRFD would be the best option.

OP, are you contracted? If so really no advantage to go SMP as you have the "golden ticket". What is you reason for considering SMP?

SMP means you will drill with your Guard unit (I am not sure if there is SMP with the Reserves), you will be get paid for attending drill (benefit) but you will have additional time commitment (at least a weekend a month or more, possible negative) in addition to whatever you are doing now.
