Does anyone have any insight as to when WP will start take applications for SLE? Their website says January 2016. Does anyone know the exact date? If not, has it been historically early or late January?
Thank you.

Once they open applications for the next class, than they will start applications for SLE. Normally around the 15th of January.

SLE is a great program for high schoolers between their junior and senior summer. It allows the SLE participants to see, taste, smell and look inside. But it has nothing really to do with daily cadet life. Its not a prerequisite for an appointment. You may want to consider Boys/Girls State programs that will help with leadership that is recognized by admin.

Roger that tug_boat. Definitely applying to Boys State. Hopefully my DS can do both.

Around here (va) a kid can't apply to Boys State. Don't know how it works in your state. Be sure his guidance counselor knows he wants to attend, or your local American Legion. Those are two of the places that Boys State nominations can originate.

Letsdothis, you must be reading my mind. Can you tell me what the process is for Boys State in VA? Can you give me a timeline of the process to get a nomination and what they look for? I am an American Legion Member and my DS is a member of the Sons of the American Legion. Thank you.

My son was nominated by the guidance office, however he told them this same time last year that he wanted attend. So, when the application process started they already had him in mind. I'm guessing your son can be nominated through the Legion considering your membership. I think there's a contact person who coordinates for the local chapters. After being nominated by the High school my son had an interview with a couple members of the Legion at the post, then received official acceptance in the mail.
