I recently recieved an email stating that I was not being offered admission to SLE, should I really let this effect me, or does this still have nothing to do with my actual application to the academy?

any 2017/16 Candidates?

With only one SLE session, it has even less bearing than in years past. Add onto that - SLE doesn't count towards your whole candidate score. Just keep testing and making yourself more competitive - your goal is to win your district.

My DS was a non select last summer for SLS (SLE)but received his appointment
the end of February. So, no, this will not affect your application.

From WP Admissions - about 60% of each entering class DID NOT attend SLE.

Based on having just one session of SLE this year- this % will probably be even greater for the Class of 2018. Therefore, if you did not get SLE do not be discouraged. Over 5,000 people applied and only 500 were accepted (selection rate of 10% if my math is correct).

SLE has little to do with your acceptance at the point. It is not included in the admissions scoring.

However, on the internal Admissions site, your attendance at SLE is recorded. It is a good thing to have on your Admissions site (not your portal).

Although it is not a part of the Whole Candidate Score, it is still a positive to have on your record.

Oud D was accepted and may not be able to attend do to a date conflict. In the initial email acceptance, she said they stated very clearly that NOT attending SLE would not at all negatively impact one's future application. I would think it would be similar with not getting in, especially this year. With only 1 week being offered very few kids got in, relatively. I can only speculate that MANY that could not be offered a spot at SLE are highly qualified and will be as strong (if not stronger) candidates than those who attend SLE.

One each board it is pointed out that not being admitted to a summer seminar seems to have no corelation on admissions later to an academy (to USNA, USMA, USAFA and USCGA). We have to trust that those who have BTDT know that they are talking about.
