SLE C.F.A. Mile Run Question

So in a serious question, what will we be running?

It’s normally a pretty straight road down by the Hudson River. I’m not sure exactly how they do 2 miles. I think out and back then halfway back but don’t quote me on that.

Sorry. You are correct. I was thinking the normal PT test which is 2 miles.

I ran my mile on a road along a train track. Half mile up, then you turn around and run back. I found it easy since the scenery was beautiful so that might motivate you to run faster.

All joking aside, there are two different PT paths these days. The old one is along the river down by the field house. It is the one used for official APFT during the year. It is perfectly flat and for two miles you run like 3/4 mile out, 1/4 back in, 1/4 back out and then 3/4 in. More recently they have a course from the cadet area to Buffalo Soldier's field that is relatively flat that is used during other times.

I would only add on a serious note that in inclement weather I think it can be moved inside Arvin Gym. I’m not sure how many laps is a mile but it’s something ridiculous like 16. Not sure if it’s done for SLE.

I think they changed it this year. Up Stony Lonesome. It’s a straight 1 mile.

I remember the route being next to the train track, flat concrete. My time was comparable to a track. If it's moved inside the gym, indoor tracks are typically 200m so it would be 16 laps like UHBlackhawk said.

The SLE instructions say that the candidate cannot be paced by someone else during the mile run. Since they have 500 kids there, how is it possible for folks to run individually? Or do they forgo that rule for the SLE mile?

They send you out as a group with your squad. If you are a similar pace to someone in your squad you could pace each other. I think what that rule is meant for is if you are taking the CFA by yourself and you have someone who is not even taking the CFA pace you.

You will run on a flat surface; unless weather prohibits, it's a 100% flat run down by the river near the water treatment plant.

That comment is meant for when you're taking the CFA when NOT part of SLE; if you're taking it as part of SLE there will be many starting at the same time.
