Hello,

I will be attending SLE, and I had a question about the CFA. I understand that I will get an opportunity to take it there, but if I don't do as well, can I retake it through sending the scores and videos in the Candidate Portal?

Thank you

Yes you can take it again if you don't do well.

My DS is at SLE now, took the CFA, and passed. He is not even home yet and has a green check in his portal for the CFA, which says "on file and passed". It is a huge weight off his shoulders. If you are prepared, give it your best! He did report that many candidates seemed unprepared for this and looks like they didn't train at all. So, there is definitely time later this summer and into fall to still take it, as many candidates are in that position as well. Good luck to you and have the best time at SLE!

My DS green checkmark showed up today too from CFA at sle. Congrats to your DS!

I see a lot of comments on this being a Pass/Fail. There is a lot more to the CFA than that. You can be below average and still "pass" but not have a competitive enough package to get a BFE.

Really, could you explain. Everything I have read has said pass/fail.

The CFA is 10% of the candidate overall score. If they just pass, it will not maximize the points in that category. The closer to max in each event, the closer to achieving the full 10% for the CFA. Its not a 0% or 10%, its a range depending on how the candidate performs.

We know what his scores in each event were and we were very happy with them. Sometimes when people say "pass", it doesn't mean that they just passed the minimums.

Yeah there is only pass/fail, heard my DD got 676 but can't see anywhere.

My DD fell short on the flex arm hang at SLE. She left under the impression that she could just repeat that section. Does that jive with anyone else's understanding?

If she needs to retake the full CFA, any good ideas on where to conduct a USMA CFA accepted retake before August 9th?

Has anyone ever headed to a random AROTC detachment or Liaison Officer and fall on their good graces?

Not sure about just redoing the flex armhang and not the full CFA. That would definitely be a detail she should confirm with her RC.

Ds#1 had to do the CFA on his own 2 yrs ago (SLE was virtual that year). He found an Army officer to administer it for him which was easy in our military town. The harder part was finding a venue with a pullup bar and mile course since he is homeschooled and does not have access to a high school gym. He was able to make it work at our Crossfit gym. DS#2 said the CFA was WAY easier at SLE than it was for DS#1 on his own because they got a lot of rest at SLE. The normal CFA exam has a schedule that his administrator strictly adhered to. He was pretty gassed by the time he got to the mile run.

The full CFA needs to be done every time, so I wouldn't think you can only repeat that section. Otherwise, I, along with plenty of other candidates, would just take one event at a time. Part of the difficulty of the CFA is that each event is done after the prior. I don't know anywhere to do a retake other than with a PE teacher...

There are six options for who can proctor the CFA. They are listed in the portal. You do not have to use a PE teacher.

She should verify exactly what is needed with her RC. I would imagine she needs to redo the entire test but check to make sure. When I messed up DS’s pushup video (put your phone on airplane mode!), he was not required to redo the whole CFA. His RC told him to redo the pushups only and send in the video. His original score, submitted by his Army officer proctor, was passing and they just wanted to verify that his form was good. We were surprised but relieved that he did not have to redo the whole thing.
