SLE Class 2023

anyone else receive an email about a payment plan system update for SLE? Also is the USMA website and Candidate Portal as touchy for everyone else as it is for me? Like the website won't open on my phone or on school computers, and sometimes just not at all...

Yes, a bunch of us got it earlier today. The portal appears to be down for everyone ATM. Sometimes when it won't work I log in on a different browser or make sure my AdBlocker is off, but some browsers deem the website "unsafe" for some reason. The servers for the portal go down a lot, too. Based on others posts it's nothing out of the ordinary.

Okay thanks!

My DD got accepted to USNA NASS yesterday and she submitted her app o/a 20 Jan. She applied to USMA SLE when the portal opened on 15 Jan. She applied later for the USNA NASS hoping she would hear first from the USMA SLE.

She has until 23 Feb to turn in the forms and payment for USNA NASS.

She isn't planning to attend both NASS and SLE. She has already been selected to attend Girls State. It would have been back-to-back-to-back weeks away from home this summer if she did both SLE and NASS on top of Girls State.

Her dilemma is what to do with the USNA NASS offer. I think her plan will be to submit the forms and payment accepting the NASS slot and turn down USMA SLE if she gets selected for it.

She doesn't want to turn down the NASS slot only to find out later she didn't get selected for SLE. The selection process for NASS and SLE are so nebulous that no one can reliably say she will get selected for SLE because she got selected for NASS.

DD emailed her USMA FFR last night about her timeline. The FFR told her the plan is for the USMA to send out some decisions later this week, so we shall see...

My son did the same 3 week SLE/Boy's State/NASS tour two summers ago. He enjoyed both SLE and NASS but if he had it to do all over again he probably would have only done SLE and Boy's state but he'd already accepted and paid NASS when he received his SLE invitation (his first choice). I'd hold out until the last minute to accept NASS to see if she receives her SLE notification (if she has a preference or has yet to visit WP).

Both are recruiting events that give the prospective students a small taste of academy life. The nice thing about doing both was it gave him a chance to compare the two environments and confirm which he was most comfortable. Both academies have very different atmospheres, cultures and vibes.

I would bet these emails about payment are just a foreshadow that acceptance letters are coming soon.

DS who is currently at USAFA had a busy summer as a rising senior. SLE, then NASS then home for a day, then Boys State, then USAFA SS. He skipped AIM. Younger brother plans to do them all but will not be attending Boys State...long story on that :/ It really helped his decision process the next year when he was blessed enough to receive appointments to all. And getting to take the CFA at both SLE and NASS was a nice perk. He also had a new wardrobe for senior year :)

@GoCubbies My DS is in the same boat. He received acceptance to NASS yesterday. He really wants to attend SLE if given the opportunity. If not he will be happy with NASS. We plan to wait until the last minute to accept to see if he hears back from USMA.

@AZWPDad04 Thanks for this perspective. DS could ask to be moved to session 3 of NASS IF he gets into SLE and do all three but I not sure we can make that work financially or logistically. He is also squeezing Boys State into the month of June, so it will already make for some interesting travel arrangements!

My DS got his SLE acceptance on Feb 3, last year. He got accepted to NASS a few weeks later and went back to back. It was really great for him to experience NASS. His dad is a USMA grad and we lived at USMA for 5 years so he knows what to expect at WP. We wanted him to experience both so he could make comparisons.

I have not heard back on NSAA as of today. I congrautlate everyone who has been accepted. I am still crossing my fingers to be accepted to one leadership seminar as I think it would be invaluable to go to one the programs.

I received an email from USMA, the portal has been updated, it seems that we will know if were accepted or not starting February 20th
ATTN: SLE Candidates ONLY

I would like to share that I got my acceptance email to SLE 2018 yesterday. Good wishes to all applicants, keep checking your emails, I can't wait to meet all of you coming to session 2, and to those waiting never forget Winston Churchill famous words "Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts"
