Hi everyone! I'm going to the week two SLE and on the schedule I saw the evening was blocked off for activities like intramural sports, cadet shop, etc. Is this structured, or does it just mean you are free to choose what you want to do? How much free time do we have in general? Is it worth bringing my laptop?

DD attended SLE last year and said it was very structured. The cadre will tell you what to do, when to do it, where to do it. What little downtime you have should be spent getting to know your fellow SLE-ers, cadets, officers. This is your time to drill deep, to determine whether military and academy life are for you. As other posters have said on similar threads: focus on SLE and leave the rest behind. It’s only a week and it won’t kill you to not have your laptop.

Thank you! Also, I read a post saying the showers are open-shower style. Is this true?

Yes, I was in the Lee barracks for session 1, and I heard that the boys' showers were all open. However, the girls had individual stalls. During evening activities, my squad leader gave us a detailed tour of the campus on one day, the platoon played a group dodgeball game the second, and got to do the IOTC on another day, and on one day we also fit in graduation practice. How you will spend your time during these sections really depends on what platoon and squad you are in.
