On an admissions brief on Facebook last Monday I heard something about SLE attendees being interviewed by the Cadets. Will this interview be similar to the one I will have to do with my field force liaison officer later in the application process? Is the SLE interview just like a practice interview or can it be used on my WP application?

I think it should be just similar to a QnA session with a current cadet about life at the academy. I'm not too sure though since I haven't attended SLE yet.

My DS was able to complete his interview for the application at last years SLE
Could you share what questions were asked? Is it the usual "why do you want to serve" etc sort of questions?

My ds's interview at SLE counted as his FFR interview. He was never given an option to redo it with an FFR. I think some candidates did get that option. I got the impression that if the interview did not go well, they would want an FFR to conducta new one but I'm not sure of the official policy. USMA is mindful that the cadets conducting the interviews are also in training.

I agree my DS only did the SLE interview as well.

The SLE interview is an alternative to the FFR interview. If the interview goes well, the candidate will not interview the FFR later in the year. The Academy can request a new interview with the FFR later in the process.

As for the questions asked, there is a standard form that guides the interview process. It is not meant to be shared publicly. There are no trick questions in the interview process. It is meant to learn about you as a candidate and understand your motivation and desire to serve.

Can we the candidate request a FFR interview later in the process if we think our SLE interview didn't go well?

Not necessary. If the SLE interview didn't go well, you will be rescheduled with an FFR.

The SLE interview is a no lose interview. Pass and interview requirement is completed with no need for an FFR interview. Fail and it doesn't count. However, it doesn't guarantee a second interview. If the file is not competitive, or if there is little chance of an appointment due to other competition, it is possible that an interview won't be scheduled.

Although a candidate should strive for every point and prepare for the interview, the interview does not carry a lot of weight compared to academics, leadership, and other components.

Field Force Reps are usually notified about candidates that need interviews a little later in the process. Admissions generally has a standard that any competitive candidate should get an interview. It is okay to reach out to your FFR and ask about an interview particularly if you did not feel that the SLE interview went well. Admissions/FFR will determine if that second interview is necessary.

Thank you so much this really helps! Do you by any chance know fi there is an interview at NASS? I know this is the wrong forum to ask in but I figured I would ask because we're already talking about interviews at summer programs.

A Naval Academy connection can better answer that question. I am admittedly not as familiar with how that other academy does things.

Oh okay, thank you for your help!

I did my interview with a cadet at SLE and it was the standard interview questions but pretty informal, then my ffr suggested that i do another interview with him and it was a lot more formal but generally the same questions
