SLE

Just an update on SLE: We heard that they will be having two "military days" instead of one this year at SLE based on popular demand. My DS is really looking forward to attending.
Just a mom question here - what is military day? It sounds self explanatory, but any details?

I am not quite sure, but I think they go to camp Buckner. I believe it's a lot of physical stuff, obstacle course, battle drills, and marksmanship. I'm sure someone who has attended could give better info.

You can pick out the military day activities in the SLE recap video where they are wearing face paint & jeans....

Yes, and last year, DS did session 2 and they had to do that stuff indoors because of anticipated bad weather. So the session 2 video isn’t as cool 😏. And then I think it ended up not even raining, so he was bummed about that. He still loved the whole experience though.

FYI. SLE updates are incoming. DS received notice today that he is not being offered an SLE slot. He was encouraged to sign up for a visit this summer or fall through his candidate portal, which has not yet updated with this info. Any idea how long it takes the portal to update with latest correspondence?

I just got the same email aswell.

DD got the same. She’s very disappointed and doesn’t understand how they select for this based on the information on the application. She has above a 4.0, already a 1360 SAT and two varsity letters. And her brother was selected a few years ago.

DS also got the rejection email today. He was accepted pretty quickly to the USAFA summer seminar last month so that takes the sting away a little bit.
Hard not to wonder what was wrong with his application, of course. Great test scores, GPA varsity sports and extra curriculars.
His dad is a USMA grad and we have lots of other family members who are military. Maybe that combined with the area of the country that we are in were factors. He’s definitely interested in doing ROTC like his older sister also so got to just keep moving forward!

My DS got into SLE and the Naval SS, but was rejected from USAFA. So we take what we can get I guess. Haha! We are very thankful he got into two and he is looking forward to the busy summer.

And congratulations to your son on USAFA SS! That was the one my son was really hoping for. Again, thankful and excited to attend the others.

My ds got into USAFASS amd SLE but hasn't heard a peep from NASS. We are also thankful he got into any and excited for a busy summer!

My DS also got into USAFASS but hasn't heard anything from SLE or NASS. The waiting has been brutal, but I know it is nothing compared to what next year will bring.

Update- denied from SLE, which is ironic as that is the only SA he hasn't visited before and the one he knows the least about. Glad they opened up dates this summer to visit- we will get that on the calendar.

I'm sorry he didn't get in, but glad they opened up dates to visit. Is your son attending the CVW at the end of April? I think you are the Mom that mentioned you might be able to give my son a ride from BWI airport and back that weekend. Sorry if I've got the wrong person.

I am that mom. Feel free to message me if I can help out!

Does anyone know if there is a waitlist and if those selected for a waitlist are notified?
There is not a waitlist for SLE. The offer and acceptance period for SLE is now closed.

Time to start focusing on putting together a high quality application for the Academy. Remember - SLE selection has no bearing whatsoever on the West Point application. Second step kits for those candidates deemed initially eligible will open around June 1.
