Smart watches?

My DS has a cheap black Casio LCD watch with vibration alarm for every day wear. He thinks that the vibration alarm is the bee's knees, when he wants to wake up earlier than his room mates.

I still remember buying one of those cheap Casio's back in High School. Digital was pretty new then, and my Dad gave me hard time about "wasting" $20 on a cheap piece of plastic. I wore that watch for years. Casio replaced it once under warranty (it got waterlogged because I used to throw it in the pool to dive after !). Best $20 I ever wasted.

DS has used a $27 Armitron digitial LCD watch for the bulk of his last four years, only now spending a little more on a new Casio G-Shock as he is about to commission.

Took a beating and he didn't worry about it breaking or losing it.

This is the Galaxy smart watch we got our Mid. The watch function screen looks like this. Plus it has all the other smart watch functionality and you can pay an extra $10 month or less and get cellular on it. Pretty cool. IMG_2913.JPG

DD wants a watch. Her preference is the color attached. Will this work with regs if she gets an appointment or should we get her a black one?20191219_153650.jpeg

DS, a firstie, has become a bit of a watch hound during his time by the Severn. I suspect it's because a watch is one of the few adornments that a mid can wear to show a little individuality / personality. His watches aren't particularly fancy, but they are valued and appreciated.

- Chrome Seiko chronometer looks nice in whites.
- Casio G-Shock is good for wearing Johnny Cashes / rucking / screeners
- Garmin fitness tracker is for running (...lots of running...)
- Finally, a nice aviator style watch with a dark face and band for the SDBs.

As has been noted, Apple watches are VERY popular on the Yard.

How did your dad do carrying a sundial around all day? ;)

How have I never seen Johnny Cashes before?! That makes perfect sense.

Here is the link to current USNA grooming standards in uniform, to include jewelry and watches. “Faddish” is a favorite no-no word in military uniform regs, and much is subjective about it, dependent on unit culture. “Non-faddish” colors are listed.

Black is always a safe choice, and I don’t think they can wear watches during PS. Light-colored bands will quickly become dirty and will not look suitable in uniform. Once she becomes a Plebe, and the ac year starts, she will be able to figure out what the regs are, what regs are enforced, etc.

There is nothing wrong with having a “watch wardrobe,” down the road. When she gets civilian clothes privileges during 2/c year, she can joyfully blossom.

No watches during Plebe Summer. You don't need to know what time it is. The Detailers know what time it is. That's all that is important.

Is that “Hotel California” I hear playing in the background?

Thanks! I had not thought about the light color getting dirty. We ordered the black one. BTW, MOC called this afternoon to tell DD USNA sent him an email that she is being given an appointment. It has not updated in her portal yet. I love seeing her happy dance and smile!

Congrats on the appointment!

But on white/light color watch bands, don't you remember the days of the Swatch? My white one back in the day was super cool but got super grungy pretty quick.
