    Hi guys,

If I want to do the SMP Program (AR and AROTC), do I have to sign up as a 09R at MEPS? My AR recruiter recommended me signing up for a different MOS but I remember the ROTC Captain telling me to sign up as a 09R.

I emailed the Captain and waiting for her response but wanted to see what you guys thought about it.

    Thanks!

09r is better, but you won't go to AIT, and you'll probably not be eligible for GI Bill and kicker. The biggest advantage of 09r is that there is no question that you are an officer in training. If something happens while you are in college (drop out, get hurt) you will have some options you wouldn't have if you had an enlisted MOS. You can have an MOS, but once you contract you shouldn't be filling that MOS slot anymore.
    Hope that helps.
