SNEAKERS:

Is there a preferred sneaker brand for ROTC, the packet I received from my NROTC unit detailed that they needed to be conservative. I like Asics- but they're really brightly colored, and I've tried Brooks and they held up decently. I would like a quality shoe that can hold up for a decent bit (300 miles-ish) and I am willing to spend around $ 150 maximum.

BATHING SUIT:

Again, is there a preferred brand? I used to swim for a club team and we all had the "Ugly" brand suits (that are ALSO brightly colored). The guidelines are the same as the shoes- conservative (I'm a girl) and a black/navy color. Would it be a good investment to choose a Nike suit? If not what brand would hold up well against all of the swimming I could potentially be doing?

TYA!

Any of your major swim brands (Speedo, TYR, Arena, Dolfin) will make a conservative suit. If you like the way Uglies fit, check out the other styles by Dolfin (maker of Uglies). I've posted a link to one of Dolfin's conservative suits. Make sure and pay special attention to the cut of the suits. Some of them are very low in the back. Re shoes, I'd be more concerned about the fit/function of the shoe. Make sure you have one that is appropriate for your gait (neutral? overpronate?). Again, you can find relatively conservative colors in most of the major lines.

Thank you and have a wonderful Fourth!

Hockeygirl: search online at some NROTC units around the country. They often have pictures of physical training and swim tests. It might give you and idea of what is worn.

Like txpotato wrote above regarding shoes - the fit is so important. Go to a true running shoe store, have them analyze your running style and get the right show for it. You can mention to them your preference for something conservative.

Was going to say go to a true running store that has a treadmill and analysis equipment to help you get the shoe that works with your foot fall type and gait. You can find local store information

PEG341705_v3.png My son is in AFROTC so it may be different, but as for shoes, I think just about any running shoe is going to be okay. He used to wear these red ones. No one ever cared

Not sure why a link to look up Running stores not a specific brand needed to be removed since like links to exercise routines it is a resource these kids and parents need but just google running stores it will usually be a high after sponsored results from a magazine for the world of Runners. Good luck cause shoes are so important in reducing injuries as well as improving running stride and speed. Make sure the store does the analysis before you start worrying about color they will have several brands that fit your gait and pronation or supination. Shoes will be around the $200 range so only use them for working out, PT, and if on a sneaker profile instead of boots. These are tools not fashion accessories and you may need new ones every year which is why you should take your shoes back to your running store for a new evaluation yearly. For them to check your wear pattern to make sure if they are still good or if you need a different option because sometimes just wearing a correction shoe and formation running can help adjust you more to center or over or under correct. As far as swim suits you might want to look at competition suits which as you said is an investment but they are made to sustain rigorous time in chlorinated or salt treated pool water and stretch in all directions for different swim styles.

As DD and I are both swimmers, we both dislike the nike suits, as they have not held up as well. You can find the Navy or black conservative swim suit at kiefer online in different styles by speedo, dolphin, and tyr. as for the sneakers, get fitted at a running store, it will help, and if they don't have the 'conservative' color, they can order it or you can get one yourself online once you know which is best. good luck
