As a marylander, my area was also hit by the snow storm that apparantly hit the naval academy. When i woke up to see that my school was closed :thumb: i saw that the naval academy was also closed! i know this will probably happen like 1-2 times a year but what happens on a snow day? do sports still meet, are there still obligations, etc etc

Regards,

Will

I also have a snow day here in MA :shake:

USNA Snow Day

Apparently the "Snow Dance' performed by the hopeful mids at our house this weekend and elsewhere did the trick.

When the federal govt (USNA in this case) is closed for a snow day, only essential personnel come in. Duty staff, food service, etc. Classes will not meet but will usually be made up. Might be online assignments. Most mids hunker down, score some rack time, have snowball fights, find some hills over at Hospital Point to slide down, catch up on stuff.

Snow stopped for a while but has started again. We have 7 inches about 8 miles from the Yard. Big stuff for MD.

And if you'd like to see what Federal employees in the DC area wake up to check, check out www.opm.gov/status/

Apparently I didn't do a good snow dance last night.

I used to commute to the Pentagon and would be on the OPM site at oh-dark-dark-thirty, praying. That was a gruesome ride in from Annapolis if the feds didn't close.

Actually Shorty, according to the USNA parents' listserv, "This is a rare occurrence -- the last time they closed due to snow was in 2003."

My Mid's theory is that many teachers couldn't get to the yard -- MD's not used to this kind of accumulation. He's pretty happy to be hunkered down in his "dog-zebra'd" rack, since he's got a nasty case of pneumonia.
