presidential nomination showing. As I understand it, this is nice to have, but not an earth shattering "win" -- am I on track here or is it a bigger thing than I'm thinking?

Presidential is considered non-competitive. IOWS, unlike an MoC where you compete with others to just get on the slate, with a Presidential all you have to do to get one is meet the requirements to get the nom..
Typically a Presidential slate can have anywhere from 500 to 750+ for the 100 appointments that can be charged to the President.

That being said a nom is a nom.

MOCs are out there - just waiting now. How will you know if you're one of the 100? If the portal says it's there, are you one of the 750-800 or are you one of the 100? Does that make sense?

My DD has a presidential on file now.

I take it she is one of the 750-800 and not one of 100 at this point.

MOC noms still have to be decided. It’s possible the SAs know by now if an appointment will be charged against a presidential nom. However, I’m sure the SAs will want to know if they have the option to charge an appointment via MOC nom. Most MOC noms are decided much later this year or early next year. It is at that point, when the puzzle pieces start to come together, they figure out if an appointment will be charged via presidential or MOC nom.

So that’s why I think the presidential nom on my DD’s file is one of 750-800, because MOC noms haven’t been decided. The SAs want to see what options they have in terms of who to charge for an appointment.

A big chunk on my reply didn’t make it previously, so here it is...

The 100 presidential noms are for those the SAs intend to offer an appointment to (3Q+above the offer line). Since it’s only October, apps are still coming in, WCS are still being calculated, DODMERBs getting done, offer line probably not known at this point, it stands to reason the presidential noms on the portals now are 1 of 750-800 that will be given out.

Good luck to your DS and let’s enjoy this experience. It’s a roller coaster marathon for sure.

Unless you are holding an LOA or your kid walks on water, you will most likely not get an offer until early next year. Admissions will wait until most MOC nominations have been submitted and then start putting the puzzle together. Having the presidential is a good thing as it gives them more options when the time comes to complete the class.

For now, it means you're one of the 750-800. The SA will select 100 of those to be charged to the President. That selection process typically occurs in conjunction with the decisions on MOC slates, which are mostly made from late January through end of March. Those not charged to the President will go into the National Pool and could still be appointed from that group.

The one exception is if you have an LOA in which case you're one of the 100. Someone with an LOA and any nomination (assuming medical and CFA are ok) will receive an appointment. The SA may ask you to continue your MOC applications so that they have flexibility in charging you, but you're under no obligation to do so.
