So you just won an AROTC Scholarship- what now.

Quote from AROTC site:
DISQUALIFIED: If DoDMERB determines that you are medically "disqualified," you will automatically be considered for a medical waiver (if you have not declined your scholarship). This means you do not have to request a waiver.
Look at the “FAST” topic under the DODMERB section and have DD read it and ask Mr Mullen. Not you, her.
Best advice I can give

Thank you so much!

My DD has a DQ on DODMERB for self reported concussions during her years of sports. She is under waiver review for USNA ( rec'd a LOA to NAPS). She just received "winner" for a 4yr AROTC scholarship). Do you know what she has to do to see if AROTC will also waive or consider waiving it? Thank you.

note to self...never self report to DoDMERB.

We are seeing the Winner status as well as link to instructions on uploading documents such as the Accept/Decline letter etc but we are not seeing the actual Letter that you would mark accept/ decline. Are we missing something??

Look under the document upload tab, not the status tab. Your winner letter should be in there.

I started clicking everywhete and yes, it’s found under the “file upload” tab across the top toolbar...not very intuitive and no instructions for this change for 3rd board we’re sent as far as I know. Thank you to MT ROTC for alerting us the letter would NOT be coming in mail though!

Maybe someone can answer this one. My DS got the 3 year award. We are trying to decide which school from his list to attend. One of the schools on the list offers free room and board. Does anyone know if that free room and board kicks in for year one (he's a year 3 AD winner) and also if he received any academic scholarships can they be applied in years 1-4 to cover room and board if a school on his list does not offer free R&B. These are all questions we will eventually ask the ROO, but if anyone has insight let me know. One thing is concerning is one school said he could get a .5 scholarship added and then another school on his list said that they only have 3-4 of those half scholarships a year and they are hard to get, so I don't think we should include those in our price comparison. Thanks for any insight.

So without knowing the schools there is no way anyone can answer this. Please ask the ROOs. Getting a 3AD upgrades to a 3.5 is possible but is dependent on many factors. How much money is available, your DS passing DODMERB, your DS being the best MS1, passing the APFT and doing really well, not getting a DUI this summer, COVID19 ending, the BDE liking your DS’s ROO and upgrading scholarships, passing his classes in the fall. The inly thing your DS can do that is under his control is being in shape and doing well in school. Literally everything else that will cause his scholarship to be upgraded is out if his control.

Most academic scholarships cover tuition so all they would do is reduce the bill the Army pays.

It depends on the school. My son’s school does give 4 years of free room and board to both 3 and 4 year winners. They also kept his academic and financial aid awards and applied them toward his first year of tuition. But each school is different.

Her DODMERB was just updated showing under waiver review for AROTC. That was quick. We didn't do anything; it was completely initiated by them. Thanks.

Hello - DS a winner this last board. We submitted and they “approved”(receive) his letter of intent, transfer request, etc on Monday - will DS get something telling him he can start DODmerb process? Or are we missing something elsewhere on portal? TY

Yes - Check your spam folder. The initial email from DoDMETS sometimes gets sent to junk. You can also go to the DoDMETS website and attempt to login. If your packet has been sent over, it will let you login. Good Luck.

our son was awarded the AROTC scholarship in January. He accepted it. Back in February I thought he should pursue the medical exams, clearances although he had not heard from DODMERB. You can proceed to an area to schedule your medical exams through their providers. Go through the instructions.

Question: Is requesting transfer from one college to another BEFORE an enrollment decision binding? I know that initial acceptance is not binding, but does a transfer request, if approved, bind the scholarship winner? Thanks in advance.

Transferring does not make the scholarship binding.

Congrats. You just won. Now what? Cadet Command will send you a letter and you must accept the scholarship. You get 30 days to accept. If you don’t the next person on the list gets an offer.

Start getting in shape and stay in shape. Far too often students show up out of shape and can’t contract. Don’t be that guy/gal. It’s embarrassing especially when we have to tell your parents the truth after you told them there are administrative problems on why the school is charging you for tuition instead of the Army.

Pass your DODMERB. You can’t contract without a qualified medical.

Get ready for college. Its challenging and different and difficult for alot of freshmen.

Get motivated.
I haven't decided where I want to attend out of my top three schools, and I have been accepted into all three. I won't know if I will receive any merit scholarships from those schools before November 28, when I need to send in my Letter of Intent. Basically, I don't have enough information as of right now to decide where I want to go. My question is this: If I put down one school and send the response back to Cadet Command via my Letter of Intent, is it safe to assume that I would be able to transfer the scholarship to a different school out of my top three fairly easy? I have read all the Additional Information on the portal, but I can't seem to find if it clarifies whether it is a guarantee/easy process if I want to transfer my scholarship. I might have missed something, so please hit me over the head with knowledge if need be. Thank you so much, and congratulations to my fellow winners out there! :)

Guaranteed - No, Very likely -Yes. Many 1st Board winners have the same issue. Cadet Command will work with you on transferring the scholarship in the event that you change your mind or get an acceptance to a school. Nothing you do right now is binding. Good luck and congratulations on your scholarship!
