Hey guys. A friend of mine said that the Naval Academy has a soccer club for kids that still want to play soccer but don't make the cut to be on the official Navy team.

I saw soccer under "clubs" at the USAFA, is that the same kind of thing? Do these club players play soccer only for their intramurals? Do they play games against other colleges? Can they be called up to play on the official team? How tough is it to get on the club team?

One other thing, do soccer players practice year round there or is it a seasonal sport where practices ends when the season does?

My DS asked that very question to his admissions counselor, and he said that they DO have club soccer (although not on the club list online). She confirmed they travel and play other college teams, but was a little vague as to why they are not listed as a club sport. DS spoke to Coach Brandt at the CVW and he said it was a club sport and students are cut every year - not a clue how competitive it is, as we have never seem them play.

Actually the club listing does show soccer, I just can't find any details about it.

Two close friends of mine are on the club soccer team here.

They do play other college club teams and just regular club teams. I haven't heard of a club member being called up to the NCAA team. There are some club members who used to play for USAFA's NCAA team so I imagine it is pretty competitive.

I can ask them your questions and get back to you in a few days.
