Just found out my ssc is in another country, getting it shipped over, should arrive in time, but in the worst case scenario that it doesn't arrive knock on wood. What would happen if I go to I day with a picture of my social security card instead of the actual one? I know it says original documents on the appointee handbook.
 
My DD was only able to take a copy last year and it was fine. I would recommend taking you passport to satisfy the I9 employment requirement just in case they want an original.
 
A few years ago I got a temporary replacement card from the local SSA office and the actual card arrived a few weeks later. The temporary replacement card (a piece of paper actually) was sufficient for my new employer.
