The Society of American Military Engineers (S.A.ME.) summer camp applications are now open. My DS went to the Army one between his sophomore and junior years of H.S. and had a wonderful time there. He thought it was a great experience and was even awarded a leadership award there. He kept in touch with several of the attendees after the camp and even ran into one on R-Day at USMA.

DD has applied to this as well as USNA Stem. Know USNA notifications won't come out until March/April but does anyone know when SAME notifications start going out? Is there an interview with local post? TIA!

We haven't heard anything yet but the applications just closed yesterday. I believe the selections are made by each individual SAME post so will likely depend on when they meet and be a bit scattered. Will definitely let you know if we hear anything!

DS#2 participated in the Navy Camp. He received a full scholarship. It was an excellent experience. It has always surprised me that these camps are not promoted more on this forum to the 14 and 15 year olds who have SA/ROTC ambitions.

It has been quite a few years ago and there may be some difference now on how the selections work now and I believe it varies by branch. When my DS did it, he applied directly to the Army S.A.M.E for the Vicksburg, MS camp. There were no interviews and he was notified by the national organization that he had gotten a spot. We had to pay for his airfare, but everything else was covered. I believe it was in March when he found out that he had gotten in.

I, too, am surprised that we don't hear more about his camp on this forum. He had an amazing time, learned a lot about engineering and it helped solidify for him that he ultimately wanted major in engineering, branch engineering in the Army, as well as a pursue a civilian career in engineering when he is done with his commitment.

Website now says applicants will be notified by April 7 if accepted. As we don't have a notification of any sort (even in junk mail) we're assuming DD didn't get selected but plan to reach out this week to confirm.
