Socks for BCT

better boot socks

During Beast a couple years ago my DS purchased some better boot socks at the C-store which he swore by. He asked me to buy and send him more but by the time I found out what exactly he needed it was too late to get them to him. This year for his summer assignment I pulled out the tag he had saved and ordered the same kind for him. He says that they must be the Olive Drab color:

Boot Sock Liners

DS has some olive drab boot socks he loves too but we read boot sock Liners are recommended. We've searched online but most look too thick so we are wondering if someone can post a link to liners that are good for summer.
Also, this year's packing list for Beast says "v. Extra boot socks (military). Brown or black in color." So, we are worried that his olive ones he loves won't be allowed.
Also, "w. Think, wicking sock liners for wear under dress socks and/or boot socks" is listed.
 
I've been breaking in my boots just wearing nike athletic socks and they have felt great. would those be okay (bring a few pairs with the logos blacked out), or do we have to use military issue olive green type socks
 
In my experience, boot socks are much better than athletic socks. They provide more padding and reduce friction.
 
My dad ended up buying about a dozen pairs of crew socks, sock liners, dress socks and boot socks. How many pairs should I actually bring on R-Day? I do not have room in my bag to pack that many socks and I also think it's unnecessary since West Point issues socks.

Also, he ordered Gray/Olive color boot socks for me. After looking at the "Recommended Items List" I saw that the boot socks need to be brown or black. I told him I cannot report with different colored boot socks but he insists I'll be fine. Am I correct in telling him I need to buy a few pairs of brown or black boot socks and leave the gray ones at home?

I found it strange the boot socks were supposed to be brown or black when cadets wear olive/green boot socks. I think it was a typo and we are supposed to bring green socks for the boots. Can a current cadet confirm?

I also thought this because the grey/olive color matches ACU pattern. Cadet confirmation would be appreciated.
 
I don't want to lead anyone in the wrong direction, but technically you could show up to CBT with what you're wearing and a small bag of personal items and USMA will issue you everything you will need and more-- especially the socks. The ones we'll be issued are the olive green and I'd advise against bringing black, grey or brown ones-- you just won't use them. The only black socks are the dress socks. Extra green ones will definietly come in handy though... I'm going to bring a few extra pairs.
 
Additionally, I think it would be beneficial to know that when I went through Beast (two years ago in summer of '09) they only let us wear issued items. Seeing as how the white crew socks may be shorter than the other calf-length socks you would not be very uniform (i.e. easy target for cadre). However, I insist on hanging onto them for the academic year because the calf length socks can get annoying.
