I saw no mention of socks in the Appointee Booklet and my DD is finding that using an thin sock inside her wool standard issue socks is really comfortable. Are socks considered underwear? If she brings them to BCT will they be confiscated?

Speaking as somebody that's enlisted and will be in the Class of 2022.. Get a bunch of pairs of sage green Under Armor knee-length socks. They are expensive but well worth it in the long run.

As for your question... I can't say for sure during BCT, but any other time that would be fine. According to AFI 36-2903...

6.4.1.2. Socks (sage green). Sage green socks will be worn with the sage green or tan boots. Plain white socks may be worn under the sage green socks as long as the white socks are not visible.

My guidance is to bring only what is explicitly listed on the AFA In-Processing Checklist. The basics will be issued white, green, and black socks to wear with their different uniforms. Many cadets will opt to replace their underwear or use different type of socks after BCT, but stay close to the listed items for in-processing.

Go with the above posts. During freshman year (esp. before football season as it's gets a little chilly in December in Falcon Stadium!), consider Fox River socks; after I read about them on this forum, got them for DD & she was very happy!!

I am a pretty straight forward kind of gal and told my class of 2021 DS last year that we were sticking to the list given him over his portal. It was amazing how many people gave advice about what to bring and what not to bring and what color it should be - unfortunately many parents and cadets found out the hard way it was incorrect advise. It got to be so overwhelming and so confusing that I finally told my son were sticking to the list. If it says 10 pair of white underwear your bringing 10 pair of white underwear - period. For the most part the color of underwear is not significant but I found that sticking to the list verbatim is the best way to keep your sanity in a very stressful time. Of course I had questions like what about Chapstick or Advil or suntan lotion or socks??? Guess what? He was issued all of those things at I-day. As a matter of fact when he was here for spring break he told me he has way too many issued socks, especially hunter green ones! So no worries, all things that are not on the list and that are necessary will be supplied to him by USAFA. BTW some advise I wish I had... beware of the parents FB page - interesting to read but don't take it to seriously.

I don't recommend buying anything expensive for use during BCT, the laundry service is known to lose/damage/shrink items on a semi-regular basis. I wore regular white athletic socks under my green ones all the time and as cadre I definitely would have allowed white socks if someone brought them, that's not the kind of stuff we really looked for...there are a lot of bags to go through and white socks are not high on the list of interesting items, just make sure you don't have a giant pile of stuff. The less you have with you on I-day the better. A tiny duffel is ideal.

Don't get me started on the parent FB pages... make sure you validate all information obtained from social media sites before getting emotionally engaged and share almost none of it with your cadets (they don't need the additional drama). IMHO.

Yes, but they issue you a cart, so that shouldn't matter.
No wait, that was NAVY, sorry for the mix up!

    LOL
