Been a while, but back in the saddle with another child helping navigate the USMA portal. DS is entering the SOE contacts. My prior experience is a bit dated. With my kids a few years ago, I thought I recall the SOEs having to be from Jr year. (I could have been wrong back then :))

However, when DS and I looked at instructions on portal, they do not indicate that anywhere. I did a search of the forum and found a post from 2018 that said any math, english, physics/chemistry teacher from 9th - 12th. Is that a correct statement?

To my knowledge, there is no requirement for any SOE's to be from Junior year teachers. The SOE's should be completed by the teacher that is best able to provide insight into the candidate's character and ability to perform college level work. The questions are very straightforward and are not specific to any particular coursework. They address topics such as teamwork, dedication, concern for others, etc., followed by a general question about how the candidate would do in local colleges.

English and Math are usually best from Junior year teachers, since the candidate has had more time to develop maturity and academic discipline.

Science and PE SOE's are a bit different, since those teachers may only have been from Freshman or Sophomore years.
