Someone please explain...

I think I heard he was PQ when he entered as a Plebe then grew 10 or 12 inches while there making him NPQ for most or all line officer jobs, then spent most or all his Active Duty training for the '88(?) Olympics. I think I heard he went to Navy Supply School during his 2-years on active duty as well...PJ

From the NBA, which is the same as several other sources:

He was the best thing that ever happened to Navy basketball. A 6-4 player with one year of prep experience when he joined the team, he averaged 7.6 points and 4.0 rebounds as a freshman, but he grew seven inches while at the Academy and became a devastating force.

And he grew a few more inches after he graduated.

As an aside, I knew one basketball player who was recruited, did not need a waiver, listed four years on the roster as 6-8, and who went unrestricted line when he graduated. I have shrunk to 6-4 in my old age and look him directly in the eye when we are talking. Basketball programs are not required to comply with the honor code.
