Son said there is some big announcement coming Thursday.

I will be shocked if this topic doesn't pop up as a separate thread with people pissed at what they think this means. The degradation of the Academies and society, and all such impacts on humanity. I would recommend that the cadets, mids, and any others who receive the brief keep the discussion to yourselves, as you are probably much more mature enough to handle the discussion than the culture warriors out here on the outside.
Ate you suggesting the public should not know what the SAs are teaching students wrt a potentially controversial subject?

Your son is blowing a simple and clear announcement out of proportion. We were told exactly what the brief is: SAGR survey results before they are released publicly.
And as a father of a 1/C Midshipman who is about to enter the Fleet, I do not need to read about "whispers of wartime/conflict stuff" on an online forum. Thanks for your post.

Hoping cooler heads prevail. DS says it’s not for me to worry about. Gotta live in that space.

No, he was sharing rumors and speculation and not making a big deal about it. By bringing it here, I got the scuttlebutt clear in only a few minutes, and informed him. He digitally shrugged, said that sounds about right, and moved on.

Having been on both sides of the coin as either active duty, candidate, or dependent, I can tell you for sure that rumors and guessing are a rampant thing in the military, and almost like a game. Worse than a sewing circle for speculations!

Well, I know some say it was clearly communicated. But directly from my kid, they were NOT told what the brief was about when I originally posted the message. He said even the chaplain, who had given them a brief on something else that day was being squirrelly about it.

Doesn't matter, it is clear now what the subject will be once they hold it.

My son is 1C - my understanding (and I am guessing) - the communications include the email and discussions from his chain of command. It’s possible not all got the same communications, especially before your post.

I didn’t mean anything against you or your son. I would have posted like you did. I meant the ones spreading the rumors on the yard that your son heard.

I don't think the public should get to dictate what the Service Academies are teaching regarding something that some people consider "controversial" and some don't.

So what was the big announcement?
My son at West Point said their briefing was generally a continuation of their discussions about SHARP (Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention) and about the survey they took last year some time on similar topic.

These service academies are defending the public’s constitution on the public’s dime.

The public should know if they are being indoctrinated for instance. (Not saying they are).
