Southwest waives expiration on flight credits

Meant to include this…

Watch for Southwest Credit Card promotions. Last year we got a card through Chase that gave us something like 60k miles plus two for one plane tickets for exactly one year if we spent $3000 in three months.

We went to Ft. Benning, New York, Nashville and Cancun in that time.

I mentioned similar previously. If not SW, almost all others have something close.

AA has between 50 and 75k bonus and fee-less first year. Since we live in a AA hub, DS could get 4 round trips home with those miles if not Thanksgiving type demand weeks. AA has also become very generous with their refunds. He can book 2-3 one-ways t, and cancel the one(s) he doesn't use an hour or two before hand with no penalty. Works great for exam schedules, leave, etc.

I assume Delta and United are similar for those living near their hubs.

Also, if purchased with a credit card, the transaction is cancellable for 24 hours no matter what airline.

All of them are becoming more competitive in their customer user experience, for sure. Post Covid. It’ll be hard to put ‘the genie back in the bottle’ with the user friendly changes since Covid!

No expiration on travel funds is huge. And beyond that, if you contact them and ask (FB messenger works reallllly well), they will extend a final 6 months to use your expired funds. That’s also huge.

It’ll be interesting to see if other airlines follow this trend. My guess is yes. We shall see!!

For newly commissioned O-1's, American Express and Chase waive the annual fees on their high end cards for AD service members. These cards carry fees of $500+. DS applied for the AMEX black card the day he showed up for S-BOLC at Ft. Gordon. He also joined the club of the hotel group operating the on base hotel where he spent about 8 weeks. When he was in the ME, he informed his O-5 BC of the fee waiver. The BC immediately got the AMEX card and on his next trip to and from the US, he partook of the airport lounges. He has been an advocate and mentor for DS ever since.

The hottest deals going today seem to be with hotel groups.

DW and I have about 7-8 cards between us, each with a designated function--gas, groceries, travel, home improvement stores, etc. We put everything, from insurance to the electric bill.
