Sponsor Family

The link above provides a text book explanation of what a sponsor family is and how cadets receive one or opt out. On a more emotional level, I can say without a doubt that the sponsor family program is fantastic! My then C4C had a sponsor family and was an athlete which meant on doolie day out the team went to the coaches. However, through out the doolie year certainly through recognition the sponsor family is like a life line to many cadets. On weekend that they can sign-off campus most are picked up by the sponsors and go to their house for a home cooked meal, R&R and a more relaxed environment, not to mention easier access to laundry. Many sponsor parents also let you send packages to their home addresses which can sometimes be faster than directly to your cadet. My DD has two "sponsor" brothers, also cadets, who have watched over her as well. Now in her C3 year my DD continues to love going to her sponsor's house and goes regularly. Can't say enough positive things about the program and about the sponsor family that we were connected with.

when will we find out about who our sponsor family is

I think it depends on a couple of factors - in my DD's case my roommates husband went to WP and his roommate became her sponsor and she was able to meet him before starting BCT. For cadets whose sponsor families are assigned it may not happen until after A Day, although quite a few know in time for Doolie Day out which is mid way through BCT.

A few years ago, but class of 2015 found out on I-Day if you stopped by the sponsor booth in the AOG hall before you got on the bus. I will forever vouch for the merits of this program. My sponsors were assigned by USAFA and are family now. My sponsors helped me walk through some of the hardest decisions I had made up to that point. They were a home away from home, a place to crash, a place to feel normal in the midst of 4-dig year...I could go on. Sponsor mom is still a constant advisor as I figure out what it looks like to navigate work dynamics and life in general. My sponsors adopted a few of my friends because theirs had just not fit. Your assigned one may not be golden, but you will have a friend who hits the jackpot. Sponsors are a lifeline and such a wonderful program.

Sponsors in summer of '18 for class of '22 were assigned on a rolling basis. Most did not have them before doolie day out and didn't get one until around parent's weekend. Some were still waiting after parent's weekend. But ALL the doolies will get to go to someone's house for DDO. Ours went with a group of about 10 but it was not the sponsor she was ultimately assigned.
