Our son will be a plebe entering the USNA Class of 2015, and we think it would be fun to sponsor a mid coming to the USAFA on a semester exchange. We live in Colorado Springs close to the Academy.I have tried to contact the AFA about sponsoring a Mid on exchange, and they told me they don't have any info about doing this! Anyone have any ideas as to who I should contact????

My Mid will be doing an exchange this fall to USAFA but since we live in Fort Collins, he will most likely will come home on the weekends that he can, but maybe you could put this out on the list serve and someone might have a S/D who is heading there and might like a sponsor foamily. I believe there about 15 that will be heading to Colorado Springs the 1st of August. You might also post a tread on the AFA forum.

my recommendation would be to contact USNA's sponsor program coordinater Rose Clark

She might be able to help point you in the right direction. Typically the sponsor program is for Freshmen only and as most sponsors do, they sponsor the mid through graduation and even beyond. At USNA our exchange cadets were typically welcomed and adopted by the mids sponsor family w/ whom the cadet became close friends with (usually the roommate). I'm sure the same works at USAFA and West Point (WP). I had a friend who was an exchange to WP and she became really good friends w/ her roommate and of course her roommates sponsor adopted her during her exchange time at WP

Ditto for welcoming other SA cadets into our sponsor family for their semester at USNA; I believe there is no formal program, specifically for exchange cadets, here in Annapolis.

We have had 4 sponsor sons/daughters enjoy semesters at USAFA and USMA, and all informally visited roomies'/new friends' sponsor families. I don't believe there was a formal program, for exchangers, there either. I would just let your current sponsorees know you would always welcome an exchange mid or cadet into your home.

If all fails, you could pass your information to jpjade's MIDN and he probably has a roster of all the MIDN on exchange at USAFA.

NavyWife87, you might post a message re: this on the USNA parents' listserv. I bet someone's kid is/rooms w/or knows a USAFA exchange student.
