Sports, and your academy application

Well, if you read through this thread, then you'd know that "Sports" and the "CFA" are 2 totally different things. CFA is about physical fitness. Sports is about teamwork, leadership, discipline, rules, and all the other attributes listed in the opening post. Sounds like your son should do fine on his CFA because of all the crossfit that he's been doing. But it doesn't really have anything to do with sports. But athletics isn't the only place one can fulfill all those attributes. If he's fulfilled them in some other activity, make it known on his application. Best of luck.

I know because of this he will do great on his CFA, but since he's not been involved in organized sports, I hope this will still be good for his application.
The CFA will determine fitness level. The value of playing sports in high school, in an SA’s eyes, is what’s gained in teamwork, discipline, perseverance, resilience and leadership. How does CrossFit deliver on those? That’s for your son to make the case.

Hello,

I’m a junior in high school. I have a cumulative 3.9 weighted GPA. I’ve taken Honors and AP classes since the beginning of high school. I’ve taken part of a local religious teen leadership group, which I’m Vice President of. I have been working as an umpire for 3 years at my local rec center, and I’m starting work of my second job this Friday. I’m in national honor society as well, which adds volunteer hours to my resume. I’m also a part of my schools debate team. Now, the athletics part. From all of freshman through sophomore year, I was on my schools baseball team. I got up to junior varsity. However after sophomore year, I decided that I no longer wanted to play baseball at my school. Frankly, it was becoming not fun, and I have been looking for another sport. I have looked around and done my research within my school, and I’ve decided to join the swim team next semester. My question is, when my MOC, ALO, etc. looks over at my transcripts/activities, what is the significance of missing one semester of a sport? How about the fact that I didn’t get to varsity level? Do my academic/leadership abilities compensate for this? Last thing.. from your guys’ experience with SA hopefuls, what would you say my chances look like? Thank you.

I know they are vastly different- I was merely commenting a bit as an aside that his CFA will not be an issue.

I have an older child who is a c4c at USAFA now, but he is a vastly different kiddo, lol

If anyone still has a question on this thread, pls follow the instructions on the "FAST" DoDMERB thread.
