So I've heard that sports are a requirement at the Academy. That I have no issue with. I've participated in two sports during my time in high school and in middle school. Lacrosse and swimming. I've earned letters on the swim team. At the Academy, I'm guessing there are varsity, intramural and club sports, correct? If so could I do club lacrosse or join an intramural swim team (no idea if club sports and intramural sports are the same or not)? I've enjoyed both sports in high school and wouldn't mind continuing those sports on a greater scale at the Academy.

If you haven't yet read every page, dropdown and link at USNA.edu, I recommend it. Most answers are there about the application process and midshipman life.

Club sports and intramurals are different. Club teams compete against other schools. I think (but am not certain) that they have trips that are funded, etc. But the sport doesn't have varsity status, FWIW. Intramurals are mids vs. mids events. Some intramurals can be quite competitive (think: folks who loved the sport in h.s. but aren't good enough to play at the college varsity level) and others less competitive. You'll find out when you arrive.

Sports offered as club and intramural can occasionally change from one year to the next, though there typically isn't a huge sea change in terms of what's offered.

The page for the club lacrosse team is a bit outdated, but it's good there is one. If I ever make it I'm going to update the site or I'm going to find out who's responsible for the site as I like to see stuff up-to-date.

Wow...the sense of entitlement runs deep with this one.. Can a 50+ year old grad volunteer for Plebe detail ?

Just a friendly suggestion....continue reading the Boards, learn what USNA is all about, and withhold your judgments until you know what you are talking about.

A prior thread from the OP indicated he did poorly in h.s. and was planning to enlist. I think there are a lot of other things to be focusing on to even get to USNA before you have to worry about intramural/club sports.

I do apologize coming off as entitled. These questions are only the beginning as I do plan on reading through this board more and more. Don't hesitate to call me out on anything I may have said wrong. I'm here to educate and inform myself from people who know MUCH more than me so I can put myself on the path to make the proper decisions in life as I enlist and begin my new chapter in life from there.

hova, I didn't read your post as being entitled or inappropriate. I do agree that there are more important things than clubs/intramural sports to worry about, as you begin your service academy application, but I hope you won't be discouraged about attempting the process. The only certainty is that you won't get in if you don't try.

I agree as well and I want to say that I am 100% not discouraged at all from the responses here. I respect everyone here a bunch because they've been through the whole process as well as served this country.
