Do the Naval Academy teams only have scholarship players on them? My D plays volleyball and has been team captain since her sophomore year (and MVP) but isn't really being recruited. Is it possible to make a team as a walk-on or is everyone a recruited athlete?

Would it help the appointment process at all to let a coach know about her interest?

All of the students at the USNA are on scholarship. Not everyone on each team is recruited, there are "walk on" athletes. It would not hurt your daughter's chances if she contacted the coaching staff.

If you go on the navysports.com website, I believe there are instructions for how to contact the coach (typically via email). There may also be information on what the coach is looking for in recruits. There is no downside to contacting the coach.

The success of walk-ons depends largely on the team in terms of how many recruits and how many positions on the team -- but also the talent and determination of the walk on.
