These ain't normal times but Spring has arrived and I can work from home and work on the home. Just spent part of two days spiffying up the outdoors with some lawn mowing, weed pulling, putting out the hoses, and putting this guy back at his post on the porch. No COVID-19 for him.sailor.jpg

I’m not doing any yard work since I still have snow piles in some parts of my yard. Spring/Summer/Fall here is about 4 months total.

I will never live some place that has to have 5'-0" tall fiberglass poles attached to fire hydrants.
I have friends who live in Minnesota. Two seasons there; last Winter, and this Winter.

Nope, no way.

The azaleas and dogwoods are in full bloom down here. In the 80s the next few days. I may have to mow this weekend... and so it begins. Damn!

Hey, MN isn't that bad. I went for a walk in short sleeves at lunch today. 50-something degrees and sunny. The roofers are almost done with my house, which is a pretty early start for them. (After getting bumped last October we're their first of the year.)

Spring means one thing in the upper Great Plains: Prairie Chicken mating dance watching. Our farm friends have set up blinds to observe.

Mrs cb7893 and I along with two other couples tomorrow evening will enjoy a cocktail hour "arms race", a salt-encased Prime Rib roast and a hearty Cab. Up at dawn Sunday to observe the ritual, then back to the homestead for a lumberjack breakfast, featuring the best Chorizo this side of the wall.

SAF people are too savvy to be in the Washington DC cherry blossom COVID-Be-darned crowd.

Here are some cherries at their height in MD, taken during one of yet another of the boxer rambles around the neighborhood. Enjoy!DCF590B6-B222-4AFC-B06E-6BA4FA65A458.jpeg7260E6BE-DD54-4BC1-8505-EC319DBC0612.jpeg

My wife and I were talking about going to the blossoms that Friday that the horde was shown on the 5 and 6 o'clock news. If we get there early we said, we can look and photo and get out before the crowds show up. Common sense returned and we didn't go and smugly laughed at the people videoed at the Basin.

The property formerly occupied by BUMED and now State Department, the Hill we called it, has Japanese cherry trees from the same batch that are at the Tidal Basin. There's only a handful and in singles but still nice to look at this time of year.

Why did we call that property the Hill? It is six inches higher than Capitol Hill so it rightly owns the name.

Lived in DC for four years and not once did I go down to the Tidal Basin for an up-close look at the cherry blossoms. Too many tourist hordes, so I satisfied myself with the drive-by view. I’d love to be out there now.

@Capt MJ ,

It's not cherry blossoms, but there isn't much more beautiful than the greening up of a winter wheat field. For those of you who are unfamiliar, the crop was planted last year and goes into dormancy during the winters, which can be brutal. As the daily temperatures rise, the shoots green up. I think there is a metaphor there someplace.

Not much of a problem with social distancing out here.
