Springfield College 64, KP 0

Time to consider replacing Coach Toop. Six years at the helm with a mediocre record and almost a complete new coaching staff each year.

I didn't watch the game but it must have been painful to watch. Thank goodness they played their subs the second half. I agree, it's time for a change.

Replacing Mike Toop as coach at USMMA would be an absolutely horrible mistake. The USMMA is not, never has been nor can it ever be a place where a sport like football can be "big" and do consistently well every season, even in Division 3. The fact that USMMA, and USCGA for that matter, field reasonably competitive teams on a relatively consistent basis speaks volumes as to the quality of the Coach and Staff as well as the student-athletes at the Academy. For an institution with the Academic rigor of USMMA to field as many competitive varsity teams as we do is really amazing, football because of the size of the necessary squad is especially difficult. Back in the day "1978-1984" there was an effort to make USMMA a D-II program, a lot of effort was spent on that, back in those days we had some really good guys on the team and some excellent coaches, that didn't stop Delaware and Alcorn State from beating us down and winning by like 60 points either. In any case, it seems to me that given the USMMA's record in football this year is 1-4 a lot of people are unhappy, especially since we lost to USCGA.

These things will happen and keep in mind that 3 of the 4 losses were by a touchdown or less. On the other hand Springfield is now 4-1 and while they did loose to Alfred by a score of 28-35, and their win over USMMA was by their largest margin the scores of their other three victories were: 51-0; 44-7; and 31-7 so it looks like they outclass a lot of other Division III programs and the Empire 8 conference they are in is indeed probably a tougher group of teams than we usually play in; that said getting a full schedule of teams we match-up well with is hard too.

All that said, there is A LOT more to being an effective coach at the USMMA or any institution like it than at most other places and ALL the USMMA Coaching Staff who field solid programs should be supported and encouraged, and basically NEVER publicly disparaged, IMHO.

I was just expressing my concern like any sports fan.

Jasperdog, I do support all of the teams, I bleed blue & silver. I was just asking how Springfield even got on the schedule. If Springfield had kept their starters in the second half the score would have been 96-0. It appears to me that there might be a morale problem and that this is going to be a very long season. I don't care if they lose every game as long as it's competitive. 56-0 after the first half is not competitive. With that said, I won't comment on this issue anymore.:)

My son is on a team. For the life of me I do not see how he fits in the time to practice. But he does. The facts these kids can handle the academic and emotional load, and fit in football practice on top of it is a victory. It would be nice if there were not lopsided victories on the football field. bUut when there are, it does not really phase me. Now I admit I was slightly phased when they lost to the CGA; but I got over it in about 12 seconds.

It does appear that winning is not a PRIORITY at KP. I come to that conclusion by the way the coaches are treated by the Athletic Department.

Perception is Reality.

Can this thread be renamed? I got a suggestion: KP 26 WPI 9
