Squadrons

There are 40 squadrons at USAFA. Each squadron has approximately 25 freshman, 25 sophs, 25 juniors and 25 seniors. Your BCT squadron is divided into 4 parts...which means different squadrons once BCT is over. Your DS will be in that squadron his/her first year and then go to a different squadron for the remaining 3 years. It's confusing at first, but you'll be explaining it to others in no time.

batmom, for BCT, the squadrons are given an alphabetical name--A (Aggressors), B (Barbarians), C (Cobras), etc. until J (Jaguars) for a total of 10 BCT squadrons. Each of these squadrons is broken down into 4 flights--A, B, C, and D, for a total of 40 flights in BCT. My son said most things in BCT are done with your flight, some are done with your whole squadron, a few things are done with your element (an even smaller division of your flight--maybe 6 to 8 basics), and a few things are done with the entire incoming BCT group.

A basic's BCT squadron and flight determine what squadron they go to for the academic year. For example Aggressors BCT squadron (being the first letter in the alphabet) will split into squadrons 1, 2, 3 and 4 for the academic year (flight A goes to 1, flight B goes to 2, etc). Barbarians will go to 5, 6, 7, and 8; Cobras will go to 9, 10, 11, and 12; and so on up to Jaguars who will go to 37, 38, 39, and 40. The academic year squadrons are numbered, but also have interesting names (for example, squadron 1 is Mighty Mach One). When the cadets go to their academic year squadron, they will be with approx. 25 cadets (their flight) that they spent most of BCT with.

Then like Mikeandcris said, at the end of their first year, the cadets are reassigned to a new squadron where they will spend the last 3 years.

DS has been assigned to the Hell Cats.

The NWP Prepsters have a Facebook page and many of them have been posting their squadron assignments. It is interesting to me that a large percentage of them, something like 15 out of 65, have been assigned to the Cobras. I thought they would have been spread out more.
 
looks like the blueangel is gonna work with some demons :shake:, that is my assignment

I'm an Interceptor! Something about knowing that someone on here knows who some of my cadre will be, worries me more! :yikes:

My DS was a NW Prepster and is in Executioners. So far there are 2 other prepsters in his squadron. I think I read somewhere that a computer program is used to assign basics to their squadrons. It is a random draw that tries to make sure there is a a good mix representing various talents, ethnicity, gender, etc. It is only a temporary home though because the squadrons are scrambled after 4th class year.
 
We have a list going on Facebook, so if anyone wants to join the Facebook group, we have real names and the such. We verify everyone who is coming in before they get admin approval. We still have access to the Outlook address book to look at who is an upperclassman. =P

Nothing against you guys, it is just I don't think people want to have their posts read by the ones making their lives suck for the next few months until recognition... xD
 
my ds will be cadre for interceptors beast 1. Based on my experience with him, he will be really nice in the afternoon, but really grouchy early in the am.
 
We arn't all that bad.....

well maybe bsa07eagle is that bad.....watch out for him
