OK, I have one in Summer Squad J and one in Squad C. Can anyone tell me how the seeding works for the Academic year? I guess it is a little bit complicated and I don't exactly get it.

You would need to know what "flight" they are in to be able to convert it to Academic year squad.

Your "J" will go to Squad 37, 38, 39, or 40 depending on what flight they are in.....A,B, C, Or D

Your "C" will go to Squad 9, 10, 11,or 12, again depending on what flight they are in.

One will be in Vandy and the other will be in Sijan

We were told early on that they would not be in the same chain of command, but I really was hoping for the same dorm! Oh well, after BCT they'll see each other every day for fencing. How much different will they be then! I can't even imagine.

In your first letter home - hopefully soon - they probably will tell you their squad/flight info and then you'll be able to know exactly what Academic year squad they'll be in - They will only stay in that squad for their 4° year (unless things change) and then they will move to their permanent squad for the next 3 years........so maybe after their first year they could end up in the same dorm. Then they'll have the freedom to "roam" back and forth between dorms anyway so they will be able to see each other.

For now watch for J-Lg Blue Lanyards and C-Purple Lanyards and watch the flag that is in the front of each group. It will have a letter on it so you can tell what squad it is.

How did you find out their BCT squads? You didn't get the flight info also?

I called the AOG and they told me, but no one mentioned any flight number.

If the AOG told you their squad, they should be able to tell you their flight......specifically ask them. Or if they can tell you what Academic Year squad they are going to, then I can tell you what flight they are in.

The BCT squad + the flight = the Academic year squad.

Or if you belong to a PC, your PC president can find out for you.

Fencer2 is going to LOVE being a Jedi Knight with all that sabre fencing! Fencer1 will be having a hard time with that purple lanyard which he associates with the Village People! haha

Very happy for you fencersmom. It is always a relief knowing where they will be. Like Christcorp we knew where potter was going before she arrived. It made for a little less anxious weekend. I know the boys will both eventually be very happy with there new homes (maybe by spring). Potter was really hoping Fencer2 would be in Jag-D, but he will still be close. They made a good impression at the dinners. Jeremiah and Sara will try and make room a fly-by after acceptance and toss candy to them.

Thanks for the kind words Dave. I'm sure to some of the kids it feels as if they've spent 5 months at USAFA, not just five days! (see, I'm counting them!)

In case anyone still is curious about the squadron numbering system, their names, academic squadron, history, etc... Here is a really good link. It will list the basic squadrons of A-J (There is a "K" but that is reserved for injuries, those needing "Special" training, and those dropping out.) Just click any of the letters and it will also take you to the numbering system as well as the history of the squadron. I'm sure most of you know this info, and it may already be posted someplace, but I ran across it and thought some might like it. You can post it in other places you might think parents of cadets might have an interest in. Later... Mike.....
