Standardized tests

Hey guys,
I saw that a lot of schools are going test optional because of coronavirus. I don’t know if USNA will do this, but if they do, what does that mean for someone who’s school doesn’t give a class rank? I heard they use the tests to estimate a class rank. Without a standardized test, what will my GPA (around a 4.0) without a class rank even mean? I’m guessing I should just take the tests either way and submit them?

Take the tests; others will be doing so...

Unless it’s literally impossible for you to take the test, take the test. Take it twice if finances permit. It may not help but it definitely will not hurt. Take the test.

Yes, take the test. Like MidCakePa said try to take it twice (I personally took it more than twice). Admissions counselors have said that the academy will still be taking standardized tests, including both SAT and ACT.

It's too soon to know what ANY school is going to decide to do about any testing. You do not want to regret not taking it. I took the SAT three times, each time I had a "goal" in mind I wanted to reach and passed every time. Last time I took it was in March with my mom asking what if my score went down? It didn't. It went up another 70 points. I ask myself if I should take it just one more time.

Take the test.

Ugh - my son has been signed up for tests since March and they keep getting cancelled. I'm curious to see what happens as it might be impossible to take them and certainly not the multiple times he was hoping for!

My DD's ACT was just cancelled for July 18. Next possible test is August 29 for the SAT now, which she's signed up for, but there's a home football game at 10am that day and being a cheer captain and band section leader, she can't miss...... Hoping they change the game to the night before (there was a conflict previously that no longer exists so the Athletic Director was trying to change it to the evening..)

Feel your pain!

All I can say is be patient...nobody knows how long this is going to last and what the SAT/ACT are going to address testing during COVID. USNA Admissions has already made one accomodation -- everyone that submits a Preliminary Application is going to be considered an Official Applicant, get a Candidate ID, and have the opportunity to submit their application. (In the past, there was a preliminary screen, based largely on ACT/SAT.

To answer the OP --by all means, if you have the chance to take a test ..DO IT. If testing isn't available, there will be a work around, and it might benefit some and hinder others. One thing I am fairly confident of -- there will be a Class of 2025, with or without testing.
