School Choice

Our in state school (Ohio State) was 2nd choice on our list behind Notre Dame. She also listed scholarship as a priority over school choice. I hope they put that together and realize that Ohio State is just fine for her. It makes sense that the Navy would be looking to get as many mids "in state" as possible with the way the budget looks.

Just curious ProudOhioDad, but does DD want to follow in Dad's footsteps and go Marine Option or did she apply Navy Option. I'm guessing Navy: clues being the subject line on one of your posts and also no mention of the PFT scores in your stats post. In either case, the fact she is a female may be working for her, as well as the volleyball captaincy for 4 years. Not that the other stuff isn't working for her but that's what I found most impressive.

Anyway, no news is good news as far as I'm concerned. Good luck to your DD. Hope she makes the cut. :thumb:

I sort of guided her into Navy option. She is athletic and tough but still pretty 'girlie'. I don't think she'd enjoy the Quantico experience and the follow on field environment. Her personality is better suited for Navy life. She is a better leader than I was and I can certainly see her in the CIC or Bridge of one of our fine Navy ships.

Good for her. And once again, good luck. :thumb:

Still waiting

Still "no decision has been made on your application"...I gotta think that is a good thing at this point.

Until it says "denied" or words to that effect, you're still in the running. She's probably been reboarded, unless they are still slowly rolling out decisions.

The portal has said "Your application has been submitted online. Your application is at the Marine Corps District for Board Selection." for weeks now. I suppose no news is good news.

Has anyone received any new updates on when we should hear back about the NROTC scholarship?

I haven't seen anything change, but we're having a pool function shortly, and my recruiter has hinted that he might have some news for me then. Maybe word will start trickling out?

when is the pool function?

The 22nd, but I'm pretty sure the dates are set per recruiting station, so one in your area might be different.

What is a pool function?

I think he actually means a poolee function... or perhaps pool is the plural of poolee or how the organization is referred to. Said functions are where guys and gals who have enlisted in the Marines but haven't reported yet, and guys looking to enlist, get together with the recruiters for a workout. I guess sometimes they probably run through the PFT. Sometimes, if there is one going on when y DS is in town he'll go, sort of as a "spirit" thing. Of course, I could be way off base and they're just going swimming.

You're pretty much on-target. Basically, it's just an extensive group workout with some lessons thrown in. No one does the PFT, though; usually everyone just runs the IST and then the real workout starts.

still waiting

No word from Florida. Although portal recently changed to show DS contact info and test scores. No decision yet. So far DS accepted at Florida and Illinois (chemistry). Georgia Tech decisions come out tomorrow. Looks like NROTC and USNA on the same timeline.

Date of the next NROTC Board

The next NROTC board is the week of March 18. Insider knowledge-confirmed. Given the standard 2 weeks for results to be posted and the fact they usually post on Friday, I would expect to see results posted around April 5. After that, I would expect the final board to be in April, probably the week of April 8, with results posted around April 26. Good luck to all. According to the insider, this year they are focusing more on EC's and being well-rounded than academic stats.
