We sent our PC a state flag (one that had been flown over the state capitol) and I just got an email from him. He was wondering what he is supposed to do with it. Perhaps the tradition of dislaying state flags during the parade hasn't been mentioned to them yet? Or maybe it was an "urban legend" that they needed one???

Our guy took a state flag to INDOC, that was presented to him by the state Parent Association.........it was communicated that the flag was the only thing a Plebe could decorate their room with......Have not asked him about that........ will do next time we "communicate".....

It may very well be, like most things, something they must earn the riight to do?

Maybe a sign !!

To take a big step back. And let your PC take the lead in what he needs or wants in respect to his KP experience. I know its hard . I am a 2012 parent. I just try to send the occasional pep talk email and texting a couple times a week seems to work for us. Letting your DS take the lead is probally unfamilar territory. But it is something we all must learn to do. Good Luck.

Could be something they earn- or they wait until someone else hangs one first!
I am glad your PC has his too. I felt sort of silly because I told my husband our PC HAD to have his state flag so he called the governor's office. It came is a nice case with a certificate that it had been flown over the capitol. Our PC's response when he received was "Thanks, mom but what am I supposed to do with it?"

i'm a first classman and i've had my state flag displayed in my room since i was a plebe candidate. if in the new barracks, the place to put the flag is over your rack. that's the only place where you really have room to put it. in old barracks they hang them from the ceiling outside your room.

Thank you and as per Yogijer, I am going to let my PC figure that out for himself... or not!
Is that good, Yogijer:yllol:

Yup. For new dorms, Flags hang off the end of a really tall bunk bed (Yes, it's a rack, but some parents may not realize it's really tall, and over the desk/study area).
Anyway, it blocks some light from the sink, and gives them a little 'privacy' to concentrate on ... whateverr.

Our daughter was given a state flag by our Parents Assoc. She left it behind and asked for it when she needed it. They all hung their state flags on the ceiling in the hall. Of course, DD had the flag from the state of her legal residence. The powers that be decided she needed a flag from her actual home. So last year a Belgian flag was affixed to the ceiling outside her room to confuse most who passed by. "Isn't that a German flag? Why is it sideways?":yllol:

Good advice Yogijer

Yep...he's got the ball and that's what we are doing....just thought I'd work in to the next conversational dead time; "what happend to the flag?"........

fyi, he asked for some clothes during his call to us last night...civilian clothes....said the Waterfront Offshore Coach would not stand for them showing up in their INDOC crap.(his word, not mine)

So....we mailed some shorts and a few shirts today.....did not ask, but wonder if he has to sneak down to the waterfront in all his Plebeness, then, into a nearby phonebooth, and out comes a teenager with VERY short haircut????? :shake:
