I don't really want to be that guy but, especially as you are looking at a career in the military, will want to get used to using proper titles and capitalization. It should be Senator Cruz and Senator Cornyn - they have earned their positions.

You may return to your regular programming. ;)
I'm almost done with 25 years but thanks ;)

I have to say that we have been completely disenchanted with the performance of Senator Kamala Harris' office with regard to the nomination process. DD's nomination packet was delivered on time by FedEx back in October. Since then we have received zero communication from the staffer(s) responsible for nomination coordination. Actually, I take that back. DD did receive the self-addressed, stamped postcard she included in the packet back through the mail, but there was no indication that it was from Senator Harris' office. No stamp on it with her name, no date received stamp, nothing. Just a blank postcard.

Since then, DD has followed up by phone and email at least 6 times, both through the San Francisco office where the coordinator was originally housed and then through the San Diego office. She has simply tried to confirm that her packet was received and processed. The office will not provide a direct number, or email, for the coordinator, so the emails and phone messages go through the front receptionist, or through the generic email specified in the application packet. She has received no response whatsoever. Just a black hole where attempts at communication go in, but nothing comes back out. I personally find it to be highly unprofessional, verging on insulting, that Senator Harris' office has not even acknowledged receipt of DD's packet. It does not take much effort to send out a form email stating that the application was reviewed and denied. It is basic business practice to respond to inquiries from applicants, however cursory that response may be. Moreover, it appears that this behavior has been duplicated with multiple other candidates.

DD is stoic about the whole thing and has frankly moved on, but I find it difficult to forgive what I perceive to be complete dereliction of duty. These kids invest an incredible amount of time, energy and devotion to the nomination process. For a MOC to allow them to be ignored and disregarded in such a way is, to me, the height of arrogance and shows disdain for the candidates.

Just my two cents...

I agree with how you feel. I know some candidates applied to one of my Senators and they get no response and they didn’t realize interviews were already setup.

I also know where Senators send emails at the end of their process. It’s possible you’ll get something soon. Our Senator still hasn’t submitted his slate yet.

I echo the same sentiments. It's hard to believe that a public servant would have such a dis-functional process. My DS tried calling into her office few times and nobody even pick up the phone. No response to email or phone calls. It's 2 weeks more when I believe all the MoCs has to submit their slats to academies. Here we are... with no response at all.

When called senator Harris San Francisco office, it says mail box is full and there is no space to leave the message. Called DC office - says all lines are busy. Go figure out.

NC Congressman Meadows Appointment Awarded

My DS recieved his blessed letter of Congressional Nomination yesterday and we're really proud and excited, but now we're praying the USAFA WA grants him a waiver to proceed on... His application portal currently states, "Complete but Medically Disqualified," and his DoDMERB portal states, "Current Medical Status: Pending Waiver Submission/Review." As we have combed through the DoDMERB page, this is now completely the USAFA WA discretion, as we understand it... Experienced advice here would be appreciated, if we are missung anything.

Wait. And read into everything you see or hear. Tell yourself that your kid will get a waiver at the top of the roller coaster. 5 minutes later come crashing down realizing your kid won’t get the waiver.

Rinse and repeat.

My son got an LOA from Naval Academy. Waiting on approval for waiver request from Superintendent.

And this waiting sucks.

Good luck ...

My DS hasn't heard anything from her either. Would be nice to at least receive a thanks but no thanks letter like he did from Sen. Feinstein....

DD was advised at the end of December via email that her waiver/USAFA was granted. Neither her USAFA portal or her DODMERBS portal updated (still says pending waiver submission/review and medically disqualified on those respective portals). She was told in a follow up email by USAFA med Tech that they would not be updated, but they have a note that she has been granted waiver. Good luck!

Realizing the situation of getting no response from the senator Harris office, my son was advised by an ex-Air Force officer to go to her office personally and find out what's going on. Since he was in the school, I went to Senator Harris' San Francisco office this morning. Front desk lady took my name and called the office that I am visiting and have some questions. She asked me to wait in the lobby and someone will come downstairs to meet you. After few min a young gentleman named "Matt" came down. I told him my reason for the visit. He was quite nice and sorry to hear that we did not get any response yet. He mentioned that nomination coordinator Sean Anstead has moved to San Diego office and he will send him an email with my DS details. That's it. Hopefully, we will hear back from Sean. I told Matt, I will appreciate if he just let us know yes/no - would be great. Out of all the long process of this worthy and noble cause, I will say the nomination part has been the most daunting one - just because of not getting any response.

I thinks it’s quite rude to give zero response. It takes Very little time to send an email blast or even a form letter when you compare to all the time it took to submit the application. We heard zero from Senator Burr in NC

DS received e-mail from Burr notifying him of his nomination about a week after the interview. His USAFA portal has already updated. We have not received an official letter from his office yet. I assume they will send all of them at the same time.

But to your point it would be nice to get a letter or email saying you have not been selected if you are not getting interviewed. It does seem rude when kids put so much effort into the process.

In all fairness, the Senator is not the one processing the nomination application packets; that task has been assigned to a coordinator. MOCs have much more on their plates. However, they are ultimately responsible for the performance of their staff and one might expect that he/she would maintain some level of oversight on the process. As President Truman's sign said, "The buck stops here."

Ignoring rejected candidates is certainly not a best practice and does not reflect well on the office's organizational competence and awareness of public-relations optics.

Totally agree it’s not the actual MOC but their staff/coordinator or admin. Which is somewhat worse since this is their job.
