Or is one only considered to have the nomination if the Academy chooses your child from that slate of candidates?

A Nomination comes from a MOC, an Appointment comes from the Service Academy.

A Service Academy may or may not offer an Appointment to your DS/DD, but you are definitely on your way with a nomination! Congratulations to your family !

My son's TX-25 interview is Saturday. I heard from one of the Texas senator's offices about 2-3 weeks ago that they had cut down from 800ish applicants to 200 at that point. Anyone else out there in TX-25?

if you dont mind could you let me know which senator it was and how the email looked like? I haven’t received any updates yet.

It was a verbal comment from a Senate staffer I know. No updates here officially either from either senator.

So, I called Senator Harris' office (California) ........... I reached a real human person..........and was told.......... it should be any day now BUT............................ "they have NO other information to give at this time" regarding details about interviews, etc..

I also called Senator Feinstein's office and their response was 1-2 weeks from today interviewees will be notified. If a S.A. Candidate is not going to get an interview they will let him/her know in a month.

Thank you for doing the fellow California applicants a favor!

Oh my gosh, THANK YOU for getting that info and sharing with us Cali people! I was going to call this week too... Side note, did anyone receive the self-addressed postcard (confirming receipt) back from either CA senator? It was definitely sent with time to spare, but would be relieved to get that confirmation from them.

we only got one back of the two sent out in the nom packages from the senators. I wish I had written on the back of the postcard which office it came from, we have no idea who responded 😑.

Good to know, thanks! Yeah, come to think of it, we will have no way of knowing either.

My son is also interviewing in TX-25 on Saturday! He is taking it all in stride, but I am very nervous for him. Does the 200/800 refer to the senator's group of applicants? My son's USAFA evaluator seem to think the interviews would be very short in our district because of the large number of applicants.

DS has not received either one back. Thank you for info!

whether nominations are a good idea or a bad idea

Noms are required by law to attend a SA..... but yes, this process is SO different from what DS's older sister experienced when applying to civilian colleges. Once her applications were submitted in November, there was NOTHING to talk about with anyone.... just wait until January for the acceptance emails to start rolling in, sit back and have your pick from the lot! This is good prep to be a parent of a future soldier though!
