State Nomination Threads - Moderated

True story - So wifey calls me in the middle of the day today crying and says "I got a phone call". I think the worst and that someone died so I started to brace myself. She continues to cry and so I said "Who called?". She replies in greek or some foreign language mumbling I don't understand but I recognize the words "Ted Cruz". So I say "TED CRUZ?!?". Shes says "Yes, Ted Cruz!". I say "Did something happen to Ted Cruz?" There's more crying and I'm still clueless to what is going on and then she gets composure and said "Ted Cruz's office called and offered DS a nomination!". Then a lot more crying. DS phone died earlier this week and they'd been trying to reach him so they called my wife whose number was listed as our home phone. He called them back and accepted.

We're all in pretty much in shock as we live in a very competitive district and didn't expect a nomination. One of our older sons went through this process without a nomination despite an amazing resume so we've felt the pain. His story ended well as he went plan B and it was perfect for him.

It's been a great day. DS is so happy. He's 3Q w/o a LOA so we're still not there but to get that call was so awesome. Hang in there to everyone as it sounds like they're starting to send out the noms.

Congratulations! Can you detail what is says on your portal, on the overview page, under the nominations section at the bottom? Does it list 2 nominations with a green check next to it? Do the numbers match?
 
Got a call from Senator Feinstein's office tonight; I got the USNA principal nomination!!! (The representative from Feinstein's office, a graduate of USNA, mentioned I would get a formal letter in the mail notifying me of this and that it would show up in my application portal within the next few weeks.) Thank you to everyone on this website for your help, guidance, and support. Your experience and knowledge has been so helpful and it has helped me to be well on my way of pursuing a longtime goal of mine. Good luck to everyone and your sons and daughters--I hope to see you/them at the Academy! (I'd also be happy to share my grades/test scores, extracurricular activities, essay, recommendation sources, and other things that helped me get this incredible honor if it would help anyone with their process. Our DD recieved a principal nomination to USNA this week. She was called out of class to the counseling office to receive the MOC call. She said she was crying when she hung up and her counselor was crying. Then she saw a woman in the corner who she doesn't know who was crying. Then she happened to run into her younger brother in the hall who hugged her and does not admit to getting teary eyed ;-) There was a buzz of excitement and congratulations as well as questions from students who are not familiar with the service academies.

We are so excited for her to be this far in the process. This forum has been such an incredible resource through this whole journey. We are cheering for all the candidates who are pursuing the service academies, ROTC and the available avenues to serve our country. This is not the easy path and our country's future is so bright with these fine young men and women.

Here is a ss of my portal. Im not exactly sure what you mean with the green check and matching numbers. Maybe it's different for the Westpoint portal? I only applied to USAFA. I got a phone call and a letter from both of their offices to confirm.

My DD received MoC nominations yesterday for USMA and USAFA (noticed both in here portal on the same day it arrived in the mail). DD is 3Q for both and now has nominations for both academies, but I take it since she did not receive a phone call from the MoC she was not the primary for either and will now be on the NWL for an appointment (hopefully). Do I have that correct? PS...this portal has been insanely helpful for navigating this process!
 
Each MOC decides how to submit their slates. You need to understand their approach to know what it means for your candidate.

Not being called is not a negative sign.
 
We’re pretty confused in our household. DS has had interviews with USNA, USAFA, USMA. He has submitted packets prior deadlines to all three congressional options. We are in Texas. We know Senator Cruz has made his calls and so we realize it seems he didn’t get a nomination there. We’ve heard nothing from Cornyn’s office or Cuellar’s office. Not even for an interview. Cornyn may not interview. Cuellar does interview and interviews were to take place in December. We feel we should have heard regarding the scheduling of the interview at the very least. We’ve received no LOD’s so I guess that is good. Nothing on DS’s portal. When a candidate is not going to receive a nomination are they notified that they won’t? Or is no news actually news of no nomination?
