Just wondering if anyone's DS/DD have received their nominations in New Jersey? I know I have read in previous threads that Booker and Menendez tend to wait closer to the end (1/31), but looking specifically on District 2...Jeff Van Drew is new to Congress, so we are not sure when and how my DS could be notified....the wait is so hard!

Did anyone received nomination yet from NJ Senators/Congressional Rep?
No word yet here...my DS is Dist 2...Van Drew...From what I gather, Booker and Menendez wait towards the end (1/31). In the past, Menendez has personally called his nominated candidates...Booker sends a letter, but many candidates were able to view his nomination in their application online before the letter reaches them. That's all I got...good luck!

All I can contribute is that my DS has received his nomination to USMA from our congressional rep, who is not Drew. We are in central jersey.
But it certainly does seem that the NJ senators release theirs a bit later than many MOCs.
Good luck...this part seems so black box, it was the part I worried about most.

My DD received her nomination to USNA from our congressman just before Christmas. We live along north part of Jersey shore. No word from senators yet either. Good luck to your son.

Traditional, Booker and Menendez send out nominations in late January. We are Central Jersey and DS got his nomination in December. USNA

I got my nomination for USNA and USAFA from SC rep. but I am not sure if they use a competitive or principal nomination.

Geez, you'd think our illustrious Senators could get their noms in a little more timely. Nothing like after the application deadline.

DS received competitive alternate to USNA and USMA from MN MOC. Saw the nom in the USNA portal, and was very excited until receiving letter today. Beginning to understand not quite what we hoped for. Grateful for the nom, but looks like the nom is only valid if the principal not qualified or refuses nomination which seems like a bit of a long shot. Still waiting on other MN Senator.

If your DS has a nom (name was submitted on slate) and is deemed fully qualified, he still has his shot in the national pool, even if he can’t “win” the slate because the elected official uses the principal method, and appointment goes to that principal, if fully qualified. The SA can continue to fill out the class from the national pool (fully qualified with nom), per established guidelines. Appointments are charged to the authority associated with the pool. There is also the VP nom - some one gets the appointments charged to that!

Thank you for the clarification!

Still a win though!! Can’t get in at all without a nom, so at least DS has a shot at the NWL. I talked to my MN MOC, and apparently my MOC does not release information about who is the principal nom, even if you are the principal nom. So in your situation, it’s a bummer to hear that you’re an alternate, but IMO better than not knowing where you stand at all. Congratulations to your DS!

Thanks.

It is nice that he his still in the running!

What does the application deadline have to do with when the Senators submit their list? If you want to object to something, perhaps the early deadlines from almost every MOC that is months in advance of the actual application deadline.

Oh maybe putting an applicant on hold for everything waiting for the MOC to do their job. DD was a recruited athlete that had to turn down scholarship offers and had others pulled because she did not commit knowing she would attend USNA if offered. Schools that were offering her money all of the sudden pulled their enrollment/scholarship offers or waitlisted her while she waited on the MOC to turn in the list and in turn wait for admissions. So I do have an issue with them waiting past the application deadline. I'd prefer the early. At least then you have a better opportunity of maximizing Plan B if needed.

Hmmm. Potential timing and the possible wait times were known at the very beginning, right? They are not new. Nobody forces you to attend an SA. The MOCs have a deadline to make their decisions and submit their slates - 1/31. Last I checked that was still a couple of weeks away. Not to mention determining nominees for SAs is not the MOCs only priority or responsibility. From monitoring all the worldly goings on, I presume they have been quite busy running the country lately... hurry up and wait... ‘‘tis the military way....get used to it

This might be relevant if they actually attended the interviews. They have a panel that does the interview and makes the recommendations.
