Still Haven't Heard! AROTC Scholarship

The ROO's used to be able to see which schools the scholarships were awarded, whether they will tell you is another thing but it wouldn't hurt to ask. I would first call the school he wants to attend and ask the ROO at that school.

It depends on how long it takes CC to update all the status pages as to when the letter arrives, shouldn't be more the 1 1/2 weeks from the time you were notified, maybe a bit longer if it takes a while to update.

After looking at other threads, all of my transfer questions may be moot. If he was not admitted to the school he got the scholarship to, does he even have a scholarship to ask to be transferred? When he was recruited to play lacrosse at his first choice school, he didn't submit the application to the second choice school, but was told by CC to leave three choices on application. I am anxious for DS to get home from practice to make the call.
Thank you for all of your good advice. I hope that it was not for nothing.

The scholarship and admittance to college are two different things in regard to CC. Even if he has not been admitted to the school the scholarship is still his, the problem is that he doesn't have a school where he can use it. This has happened to people before, it is still possible to have the scholarship transfered.

A relief to hear that. We have left a message for ROO. Hopefully, some news from him soon.

In Jan, the timeline was:

24 Jan-portal changed to show scholarship
30 Jan-portal changed to show a school
4 Feb-letter received that showed three schools with what type of scholarship to each

Had to accept (and annotate for which school) or decline by the end of Feb.

So you should be getting something in the mail soon.

Hoping for the BFE today! And that is has first choice school listed in the awards! Crossing fingers and toes that it works out and we don't have to go through the transfer process. But if we do, thank you to clarksonarmy and all others for the info on what to do next. Your advice has been SO helpful. There is no guidebook on this process, but you are all the next best thing!

DS received confirmation that his 4-yr scholarship transfer was approved! So relieved to have this resolved. He is waiting to hear from the ROO at the school but does anyone know what happens after transfer approval?
Thanks to all who post on this forum with such valuable information! I stumbled across this site late in the process - wish I found it earlier.

That is GOOD news. Congrats to your DS for receiving a 4 year scholarship!!

Congratulations to your son. It's great to hear the transfer process worked (though with the 3-year hiccup). I get the impression that the number of 4-year awards is down quite a bit this year.

Your son will probably get a package of paperwork in the mail. Don't be surprised if it requests information and forms you've already sent in.

I would call the ROTC program and ask to talk to the MSI instructor. Find out if there are any readings you are expected to complete over the Summer and whether or not there is a New Cadet Orientation Program.

EDelahanty & DartFrogLover - Thank you!

Marist College ROTC - Thanks! Great questions for him to ask the MSI instructor. He has been in contact but it will be good to have specific questions.

If you do not receive an offer, it does not mean that you have to put aside your dream of becoming an officer. Enroll at a school that you can afford and then compete for any on-campus scholarships that become available.

And that's what my DS's plans are! The goal is commissioning, and there will still be a (small) chance of a campus-based scholarship, I suppose. Thankfully, he will still be able to attend VMI, his first-choice school, since we're in-state. It's disappointing not to receive the scholarship, but the ultimate goal is still attainable. :thumb:

Great attitude! My DS is finishing up his MS1 year, is this the path he planned, nope, but getting contracted next fall will be sooo worth it, if it happens(he's doing everything he can, the rest is in the Army and God's hands).

That's exactly how I feel!!
