Still hope?

TWE here in MA too! Still in mix for USAFA and USMA ( but that one still needs a waiver & they are not pursuing “at this point”....so unless the slate changes up, not hopeful). Crossing our fingers! Congrats to those still CPR! Our DS/DS’s are amazing to even take this path and get this far!

Same here. TX. Got TWE email and update today. DS is upset - but plans B and C are still awfully good plans (USMMA Appointment and NROTC 4-year award) so I hope he eventually can realize that this is only a speed bump on the way to serving. But at 18 that’s hard when your dream was USNA. It’s a lot easier at 50 looking backward to see the bright spot.

TWE just received for my DD, as well. In TX.
Sorry to hear this. I've been following along, monitoring your journey. I know how badly you wanted it for her. Hopefully NROTC comes thru.
Thank you for the kind words. She's a pretty sad young lady today, but (of course) has a tremendous head on her shoulders and determined plans for the future. Definitely agree that we hope NROTC comes through!! $$ needed! :) (twins headed off to school at the same time, yikes!!)

Definitely seems like today was the wrong kind of wave :( Sad DD in TX for us, as well. I turn 50 next week myself, so totally agree about looking back! Best wishes to your DD and her excellent options. Still holding out hope for the NROTC scholarship, that sure would make the path a little straighter! She's accepted to Texas A&M engineering (as well as Citadel and Norwich), so we'll just hang tight a little longer and hope for some fair winds and following seas!

DS also into A&M. His scholarship award was to Stanford who hasn’t replied yet. So now the risk is getting his scholarship transferred if Stanford turns him down. But he also has USMMA so he will have hard decision to make. Good luck to your DD!!

Capt, surely he gets that an appointment to USMMA and a 4yr NROTC is not in any way a "speed bump" to serving in the fleet, right? Hearty congratulation to him! That is awesome.

All the best to you and your DS, as well!

BGO reached out invited DS and us to the regional USNA alum gathering during the holidays. IDK if he invited the whole slate or what, but we were the only ones to take him up on it and actually attended the event. BGO sat with us and then made sure to introduce DS to all of the faculty and admin personnel, and really schmoozed DS up to the muckity-mucks, "I want you to meet my top candidate" which I thought was really generous. Anyway, just a data point, who knows if it'll make any difference having such an encouraging/involved BGO.

Apologize for jumping into a wave of disappointing emails today, but want to set the record straight on the above.

First of all, regional alumni group gatherings have less than zero impact on admissions. Larger regional groups often put on events for candidates to introduce them to/sell them on USNA. I've been on the board of a major regional alumni group and I can assure you that they are not involved in the admissions process. So knowing them will do you no good whatsoever in the Admissions game. In fact, for the most part, the minute you walk out of their meeting, you walk out of their lives. Sorry, but it's true.

The comment about "my top candidate" is highly inappropriate. I might say something like that to my spouse . . . and I might put it in an interview write-up (not that it will make a difference). I would NEVER say something like that publicly. Besides, the person he thinks is his "top candidate" may not be the one USNA thinks is the top candidate. And their view is the only one that counts.

Finally, if your DS receives an appointment, I can promise you it was on the merits and not because of what his BGO thought or did.

Folks who did not receive an appointment . . . do not waste a nanosecond of your time or a microgram of energy wondering whether your relationship with your BGO (or lack thereof) made an iota of difference in how things turned out. It did not.

I hear you! The challenge is being able to look at things Without the emotion. His dream has been to serve in the Navy and graduate from USNA - and now a part of that dream has been shattered. The end game is still in play - and with incredibly awesome paths before him. But it has to be his choice on what path to take - and I don’t know what he will decide. If he wants to have the opportunity to reapply to USNA then ROTC is the best approach. If he goes USMMA he doesn’t have that option - and will he really have his heart in it? I can’t say - only he can make that decision. At 50 these decisions look easy - at 18 it’s a lot harder to see the forest for the trees.

Remind him that if he wants to be a Navy officer then NROTC is an excellent route to pursue. Also, he can allays re-apply next year and doing it while in NROTC opens up an opportunity for another nomination, besides looking good on his application. If he plans on re-applying he should mimic the plebe year classes. But you knew all that, right?

Already on it! I just need to let him wallow in self pity for a few hours then kick him in the @ss and move forward.

TWE for DD today, fingers crossed for USAFA, USMA & USCGA.
Guess this is a wave opposite of what we were all hoping for. Best of luck to everyone still in the game and those who already have appointments.

Just got a text from my boy. TWE email and update on portal. Next stop UT-Cockrell school of engineering. Chemical engineering that is. Haven’t spoke to him yet so not yet sure if he plans on re-applying. To soon to ask I am sure. Nicest group of people that I ever met that I never met. Moderators, BGO’s everybody, WORLD CLASS!!
