Still in the game

It's extremely rare for WL candidates not to hear until the last minute. May 1 is the date by which appointees must accept/reject. USNA can then start looking at the WL. Most years, nearly all the WLers hear in May or very early June. A few years ago, the process for some dragged out well into June.

I've been out all day putting up signs for a friend running for judge. I usually check in all day. This is all devastating to read. I know that each of you has raised wonderfully talented children. They will be successful......but I still hurt for you as I read.

DS chased Bob down earlier. No news here. Chins up through the weekend. You each are to be commended.

I wonder if no news or being wait listed is "better"?

We're wondering the same here in sunny So CA. No mail from USNA. The painful wait continues. Feeling sad for ALL our forum friends who received the TWE today. The waiting group is getting smaller.

Still hanging on in AZ. DD got a BFE from local CC with her graduation information for her AA in May, a week before high school graduation.
She is willing to redo those 2 years of college to be apart of the USNA.
Patience is a virtue that I have always prided myself in....... Today pride cometh before a fall. My patience is shot!

hopefull for all

SO extremely sorry to hear about the TWE's and waitlists. Limbo is not fun. My husband, many moons ago, received a BFE from USNA, a few days before I Day, he was already in NY making his way to West Point. A few days later he received an NROTC scholarship to, I think, Texas A&M. Don't know if things are the same, but there always hope. Hang in there and stay positive.

False alarm, turns out TWE came today after all. Oh well, now I have to choose between USMA and USAFA :). Good luck to everyone!

To all the TWE recipients today, especially kayaker, you may be off the island, but your children are all rising leaders! Take comfort in time, knowing that I along with many others will be here for you if the reapply journey is in your future. The sun will shine again as a new door opens for you! My best to your future!

Out of the game

My DS rec'd the TWE today. He is devastated even though he was accepted at another SA. ROTC, too. USNA was his first choice and he prepared for this since entering High School. He had the right scores and grades and did all the right things in terms of athletics and leadership. Visits, Summer Session, multiple nominations, too. I am at a loss at what to tell him. Everything I say sounds hollow.

Navstar, sorry for your son's TWE today. As parents we hurt as much as our kids. We know the amount of work and emotion they put into this process. It really is difficult to say anything that is going to make it less painful. My view is it really is a numbers game and it really does matter where you live. If you're in a competitive state, congressional district etc. it can make your chances that much more difficult. It is still a good idea to talk to USNA at some point and ask if there was any area where your DS could have been more competitive in. Many of our kids bounce back after processing this loss and embrace their Plan B. Many want this USNA appointment so badly that they will be back shortly as reapplicants. Your son will move forward. He made it this far and will do well in whatever he chooses!

DS is still waiting on USMA...

Navstar, that hurts. So very sorry.

Processing

I appreciate the support on this forum. Have not crossed paths with DS yet other than hugs last night and "see you laters" this morning. We want time with him as he processes. Not looking forward to it and feeling empty of the right thing to say. It will be interesting to hear what USNA says he can do to do differently if he decides to reapply. He is a victim of the numbers. Stellar SATs, straight As AP Scholar finishing up high school with high As in AP Physics and linear algebra, two sport team captain, and all around nice kid (says his mom). Options are superb, but still I am presently in the  stage (how many stages are there?). Need to snap out of it before talking with DS and put on a positive attitude.

I have always known how competitive the process is yet I find myself stunned by these TWEs. It has to be numbers in the district but I would be curious to see what stats "won."

Thinking of you guys and your terrific kids. I wish they could all have what they earned.

So sorry to hear about all the TWE's yesterday..amazing kids victims of the numbers game.
Still waiting in NH, although at this point rather hopelessly given that it is April 5th. DS is over at the mountain with friends skiing across the pond in the annual right of Spring mountain celebration..we'll wait and see if the mail brings news today. Just want closure, just this morning I inadvertently picked up a pen to write a check and of course I look at it and it says "Go Navy!"

Good look to all still in the game and all the amazing kids deciding plans for next year, kids like all our candidates will succeed and lead anywhere they are.
