Still waiting on medical waiver - Seems like we should know by now

Back in early December our DS was a very strong candidate for AFA. However, also at that time, he was Medically DQ'd over something that we know is typically waived, even sometimes for pilots. (My son does not want to be a pilot.) In mid-Dec he received instructions from DoDMERB for additional testing, which he did immediately, and the results were sent and received over 6 weeks ago. Shortly thereafter, he received his MOC nomination, and on 12/24 received and accepted his appointment, and the next day received portal confirmation of his acceptance. And earlier this week he received the BFE, which was nice to get, but wasn't a game changer, as it still noted that it is conditional pending medical qualification.

We're unclear as to exactly where things stand-- Is the file with DoDMERB still? Or the AF? --and are reticent to start shaking too many trees. Patience is a virtue, right? On the other hand, six weeks seems a long time, and we hate to think that we've missed something or that, for lack of a better word, the file has been 'lost'. The later is very unlikely, of course, but stuff happens.

Just curious if anyone has any insights on our situation. Thankfully, our DS is calm and confident, traits, I'm sure, that the AFA recognized in him to begin with.

Thank you.

Sometimes waivers take months. It should be with the Air Force since the commissioning authority grants waivers. Perhaps admissions can shed light on things? I also expect they have a large backlog of waivers to review at this point in the schedule.

Happy to report that DS was granted his medical waiver. Having already received-- and accepted --his appointment on 12/24, this was the last hurdle. He is thrilled; we are proud and thrilled. Today marked seven weeks between appointment and medical clearance. It was a long wait, but the timing was perfect, as he will be fencing this weekend at the National Fencing Junior Olympics in Columbus, OH, and the AF team will be there, too, and he will be able to celebrate with them and look forward to competing with them at JO's next year in San Jose. Good luck to all those still sweating out a waiver; once again, thank you to Deputy Chief Mulllen for indulging our impatience and being of such great service to us all as we navigate these unfamiliar waters.

Same! waiver came through finally yesterday for my daughter also!

Waivers are case-by-case basis; workload dependent; and dependent on the type DQs... yada, yada, yada. I just don't want any unmanaged expectations out there. Some waivers can take a day, some can take weeks, and some can take months

How long did you have to wait for an update on the waiver?
Jan 16 it was initiated found out yesterday it was approved. Like Mr. Mullen said it’s all based on workload so take it with a grain of salt when it comes to others timing

How did you first find out it was approved? DoDMerb site, email or portal? Waiting for a "granted waiver" is just as stressful as nomination LOL!

Not every SA and/or ROTC program send an email (e.g. AFROTC only posts on DoDMERB website)
