Still waiting?

question

So, the big question, is who are they sending the letters to, the congressmen/women or the nominee? Are they emailing anyone, are they changing the status, are the congressmen/women going to be calling the nominees if they get the letter? I am guessing, any or all of the above. BUT, I still would like to know where the letters are being sent, home or nominators?

Quote: "son still waiting, too. Just spoke to admissions office and everyone should KNOW by the end of next week. Not letters will be mailed by the end of next week. I think that means big mailing today or tomorrow." End Quote.

My daughter called today and was told the same thing. We're trying to keep positive, but since the admissions counselor asked for her social security number and looked her up and said only that something would be mailed out tomorrow or early next week, we are afraid it's a no.:frown:

I believe that the BFE is sent to either the appointee or the appointee's ALO - never to the nominator. Others, please correct me if I'm wrong. USAFA does e-mail the nominator though should his/her nominee be appointed.

I'm guessing a batch of "Qualified, No Vacancy" notifications will be going out next week along with the BFEs by mail. I've never heard of anybody receiving a phone call from Admissions or an MOC saying that they have been waitlisted/denied.

Members of Congress are notified, surprisingly, by looking on the Academy website they have access to (it's special for THEM, sorta like what we ALO's have). That, according to my contacts (I work closely with my MoC's office) is the "typical" method.

ALO's...we find out usually from the candidate themselves with a very excited or depressed phone call! Occasionally I've heard from USAFA first because I get a BFE that has the appointment certificate in it! That's my clue.

That's pretty much how the notification method works for ALO's and MoC's.

Mom called Admissions today - Apparently, a large batch of Qualified, No Vacancy letters will be arriving in mailboxes next week. My counselor said I will not be receiving anything since my file is still under review (including the QNV letter WHEW!). Now he says that everybody will know by the end of the month. :screwy:

Hang in there guys. I was in your shoes last year, 3Q'd with a nom to USNA. I got my TWE mid-April. I had a Type 7 AFROTC scholarship as my back up. This year I got an appointment to USAFA and will be joining the rest of the Class of 2014 on June 24! Sometimes it just isn't your year, but I encourage all of you to apply again if bad news comes in a week or so. Good luck!

For MN14, what was your course of action this year? Did you attend another university? Any advice to those who might be faced with re-applying?

sarah-

I went to the University of St Thomas in St Paul, MN and did AFROTC there. It was good, but I knew that the Academy was for me so I re-applied.

My advice would be to go to another university and join the AFROTC detachment there. In the detachment do your best to stand out as a good cadet. Go to more than 2 PTs a week, volunteer for leadership positions, if there is a cadet officer shadow program, do it. Work like your going to stay at that University. Anything that shows you are committed to being an AF officer is great. Also, there is an AFROTC nomination you can get. If you haven't heard anything about it by the end of September talk to your Commandant of Cadets.

Take some math and science classes if you can, it shows that you are taking classes similar to the Academy first year classes. Make sure to do well in them obviously. I had a 3.34 CGPA and took math, english, and engineering courses.

For the application, try your best to get it done early. It won't be complete until you send in your first semester college application, but get everything else done during the summer.

Overall, just do your best to stand out. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the personal experience! We still have our fingers crossed, of course, but at this late date, hope dims and son is preparing to do ROTC at one of two schools, still hasn't decided, then reapply.

Does anyone know how the applications are reviewed? Do they do all of the applicants from a nomination source at a time, make a choice then move on to the next? Do they do them a state at a time?

Thin White Envelope today... at this point I somewhat expected it, but it was still kind of heartbreaking to see it in the post office box this morning. I will re-apply for the class of 2015; now the decision is between AFROTC at Virginia Tech or at Embry-Riddle. Any opinions on those AFROTC detachments would be greatly appreciated...

Sorry for the bad news homewith4 and Big Red. :frown: I'm glad both of you are looking at the situation optimistically.

Big Red, my plan B is also AFROTC at Embry-Riddle (Daytona Beach). Which campus did you apply to?
