Strange BGO Wording

I emailed my BGO about hearing back/contacting USNA for the waiver and checking in to make sure that they have all the materials necessary to make a proper decision, he said that I was found 3Q and that I am "off to the next level, slating for nominations and the Dean of Academic Affairs".

(1) Could anyone explain what he meant by that, I thought I already had a nomination (Congressional- notified in late Nov.). And how is the Dean of Academic Affairs related to both the nomination and/or appointment?

(2) Also, if by chance they happen to waive my medical issues (fingers crossed), does that indicate a possible appointment?

It all depends on how serious your medical issue is.

Isn't being 3Q'd mean that you are qualified medically and therefore would have already been granted a waiver? It is my understanding that if you were DQ'd by DODMERB and waiting on waiver you would only be 2Q'd.
 
Now I have no clue what any of that wording means and I am by far no expert, but it is possible that someone else (out of the other 9 people who received that congressional nomination) have already been appointed with only that nomination and therefore they are looking for somewhere else to charge you to?

I would look into your portal and see the status in the medical section. It should say qualified. If your BGO didn't make a mistake looking at someone else's information, a waiver was approved and you are deemed fully qualified. Anyone that is considered competitive usually has a waiver requested.

The next step he is talk about is resolving the slates. Any competitive slate will stay open until the deadline for everything is reached. USMA's deadline is the end of February. I am not 100% sure what USNA's deadline is but it will work the same way. Once the deadline passes, you are compared to everyone on your slate and the highest ranked candidate receives an offer of appointment.

That is a very good sign and congratulations on being 3Q'd. Make sure you continue to update any additional changes to your file that can improve your ranking.

Your Senatorial or Congressional nomination(s) is only one more piece of the puzzle. Until you are accepted by the Academy via Dean of Academic Affairs (you are academically qualified), you're still in process.
 
First of all, your BGO has no idea what is going on with your medical waiver, nor should he/she. For privacy reasons, BGOs are directed not to get involved in medical issues. We can provide general guidance in line with information provided during training and explain the process, but that's it.

The only thing we see related to medical status is whether a candidate is "Qualified," "Incomplete," or "Rejected." Note that the latter two status can change. We don't know whether a waiver is being considered, what information you may have been asked to submit, whether that info is complete, etc.

If you have ANY questions regarding medical issues, you should consult your RD and/or the medical person in Admissions. They are the only ones permitted and qualified to help you.

As for the other things your BGO said . . . not much of a clue. There is no Dean for Academic Affairs, although there is an Academic Dean. I believe he (or a designate) sits on the Admissions Board but am not aware of other significant involvement in the admissions process. "Slating for nominations" could mean that your BGO believes that Admissions is reviewing the MOC's slate to determine the person(s) who will be offered an appointment -- but that's only a guess.

The fact is that, unless BGOs call Admissions about a candidate (which we are not encouraged to do because with 3400 BGOs and thousands of candidates, it would become chaos) your BGO knows almost nothing more about your status than you do.

What status does the BGO see if a candidate is DQ by DoDMERB, but a waiver is granted? What shows for DQ but being reviewed under waiver review?

OP You should check your DoDMERB medical portal. It will show you if a waiver was granted.
