Strange Call Yesterday

I got a strange call yesterday from my MOC. I have been CPR since December and my BGO told me that I was 3Q. I've been thinking that, with all of the recent turndowns, that still being CPR at this stage is a good thing. He said he didn't know the status of my application but "If USNA doesn't work out I can write you a recommendation for NROTC." I explained that I already had my NROTC application completed and was waiting as my Plan B. He said that he would look into it and someone would call me in a week or two.

It seems weird that he would call me to tell me this. I haven't seen any other situations like this on these forums so I'm not sure what to make of it. If I had to guess I would assume that he, in fact, does know that I'm being rejected and is trying to soften me up with an NROTC recommendation. He made it seem like he was going to "offer" me NROTC.

Has anyone else had this happen? Or, am I reading too much into this?

Was it the congressman himself, or the academy coordinator? That's weird considering you need nothing from your congressman to apply for ROTC, and besides you don't usually write letters of recommendation for people unless you know them somewhat well. If he did say that to you as a way of letting you down gently, that's idiotic as he was vague and admitted to not knowing for sure. Or maybe he was just trying to be friendly to all his constituents by checking in.

I really wouldn't know what to make of it. The only time I was ever called by my MoC office was when scheduling my interview and when they said they'd nominate me. I don't see any other reason for them to call unless maybe to congratulate someone on an appointment. In your case, who knows. You'll get your answer soon now, so in the interim just try not to read into it.

'tis strange, but suspect its simply a well intentioned MOC checking in with his constituent. Admissions really doesn't communicate status to CPR unless an Offer of Appointment is made. Frankly, I'm surprised (and impressed) that a MOC actually made the call.

My MOC didn't even have the time or will to call me for any portion of the process and I live in a small district so I would be happy that your MOC is keeping in touch.
PS: His Aide however was a responsive guy so no harm.
